Many know her as the first female Palestinian DJ, Sama’ Abdulhadi is a techno rebel with a cause. Proud of her heritage, ever since a young age the DJ and producer felt an obligation to her country. Not only has she become a face of the emerging electronic music and experimental techno scene in the Middle East, but she’s also creating opportunities for others. 

We chatted about why she keeps pushing boundaries with music, her out-of-body experience during her b2b with Nicole Moudaber, and why it’s important to give it your best every single time.

oh Fusion. what a crowd and what a festival

On my first trip to Palestine in November 2017, El Oddz (Radio Nard) told me  that there is a palestinian techno dj and producer who goes by the name of Sama. I did not know about her before, so i was really flashed as 27-year old Sama Abdulhadi aka سماء 'SAMA basically started the whole underground electronic movement there and started mixing in 2006 at parties around Ramallah, Palestine. In 2013 she started her career in Cairo as an Audio Engineer, Music Producer, Audio Trainer and Sound Designer for films. In 2017, as she was about to settle in Paris, SAMA’ decided to change her artist name from Skywalker to SAMA’ her first name, meaning „sky“ in Arabic. Since April 2018, as she was selected as a Laureate by the French Institute, SAMA’ is attending a six months residency at the International City of Arts in Paris, during which she will work on her next album and develop a new live show.

You can catch سماء 'SAMA deejaying in April 2018 in Paris, Berlin, Ramallah and Betlehem. In May 2018 she is invited to play Electropicales #10 in La Reunion and at the end of June she will nourish the freaks at the main stage of Fusion Festival in Germany.

I was extremely honored to be featured on the legendary Essential Mix show this summer...  When I was in college, my teacher used to play us Essential Mixes in class, and on the 20th anniversary of the show,  Pete Tong was hosting James Zabiela and Sasha at the Warehouse Project in Manchester. I was the first one in the queue and the last one to leave the club! I will never forget that night. This year I had the honor of meeting Pete Tong at IMS Ibiza, and I think you can imagine how overwhelming it was to be invited to record a set for the show.  Here is my Essential Mix.
