I guess I have heard enough about white or black or purple "supremacy " and learned enough from history that there isn't any "race" that has proven to be superior or actually much different from any other. All seem to have the same good qualities and bad qualities and make the same good judgements and bad ones.To me the issue is can we collectively learn from the past and go forward to a better place. I am an optimist (believe it or not) so let's see how we do.

This is a song that originated with Tez recording some killer guitar tracks over an amazing riddim that he created. I added some bass, organ, and a little guitar lick that shows up in there from time to time. This, of course, is the latest in our line of dub tracks I've made with my man in Manchester. He also used his wizardly skills on the production and mix, too, which is all him. He envisioned this song as a nautical theme, hence the name. We hope you enjoy it!

This incredible city spans the continents of Europe and Asia and reflects aspects of both in its culture and people.

'The Abbott Of Crossraguel Abbey'
In 1570 the Dunure Castle was in the hand’s of Gilbert, the 4th Earl of Cassillis, who had the reputation as a greedy man with a fiery temper. Gilbert’s Uncle had been the last abbot of Crossraguel, and after his death in 1564 the abbey lands passed on to him. This was all to change in 1565, 
when the King appointed one Alan Stewart as the lay commendator to the abbey. This allowed him to gain control over the lands, buildings, and the duties paid to it. Obviously the Earl was not amused at this usurping, and 5 years later after a great deal of political fencing , 
the Earl had Stewart kidnapped and thrown into the Black Vault of Dunure Castle. Here the poor man was roasted on a spit over a well stoked fire, until he agreed to sign away the lands to the Earl. Stewart was eventually freed and outlived the Earl, who was killed after his horse fell on him.

Whether there is any truth in the story is unclear, but the tale lived on in legend. It is said that on dark nights, when the wind blows gently through the ruin, the hideous shrieks of the abbot can be heard, as he is he is roasted alive deep within the Black Vault.
Of course there are two side to this story. The poor Abbott being roasted over the spit on the one hand and his tormentors quite happily watching till they got what they wanted on the other. 
I have attempted to cover both sides of the coin in the musical interpretation.

This is a song that I created with a few different songs in mind, most prominently Us and Them and Deep Blue Day. I needed drums, though, so I sent it to my friend Ken who added those and some acoustic guitar--exactly as I wanted them to sound. Then I sent it to Tez who added a ripping electric guitar. He also produced and mixed the whole thing. And what an expert job he did, as always. For anyone paying attention, this is a remix of the song A Separate Reality we all released two weeks ago. it's less heavy on the electric guitar and heavier on the keys. The desired effect is that it's a more relaxing version. We hope it has that effect on you!

Now retired from a life 'on the road' as a freelance keyboard player, I compose and record in my home studio, situated in the Carrick Hills in Southern Scotland. My music is mainly instrumental in nature and is a reflection of my life experience, sometimes real and sometimes imagined.
My influences are many and I have quite probably been shaped by listening to the very many "giants" of music, both players and composers. From classical to contemporary jazz and everything in between. My main instrument is the keyboard, whether that be piano, organ or synth. But I also play banjo, flute and percussion. I have a special relationship'with bass, whether upright or electric and use virtual and synth basses from numerous sources, but mainly Trilian by Spectrasonics.
