My solo piano album “Recollections Vol. 1” is out on all platforms. Kind of a weird feeling. Something I really focused on in this album was simplicity. It’s never about how many notes you can play. Never. It’s not how fast you can play either. Ever. It’s about the intentionality and passion in which you play. For me at least. The greatest musicians in my opinion play and live with these thoughts in mind. I really believe two different pianists can sit down at the same piano and play the exact same note, but it sound extremely different from one player to the next. It’s in the touch, the feel, the speed, the present-ness, the willingness to slow down, it’s the heart in it. It’s wild to think that a mere Middle C on the piano can sound in a thousand different ways. So you’ll see in this album, I tried to be brave enough to not fill up each song with more notes and more chords. I wanted to give each song space and not clutter them with attempts to try and impress everyone. That’s a huge temptation that I don’t think we talk about enough. In a few of the songs I actually only stay on one chord. I love to explore how much I can get out of only a few notes. I’m not trying to be the greatest piano player in this album or trying to be the best musician. I wanted to document what I’ve learned over the years of being a musician and a person. It’s not the best, but it represents me: where I’ve been and where I’m going.
