Two lads from Newcastle, UK. We have spent the last 10 years DJing together under the name RJ, playing regular gigs locally to supporting big acts around Europe. 

Sharing a love of House Music since the turn of 2000, artists such as Copyright, Soulsearcher, Sandy Rivera and Harry Romero, and labels Defected, Sulphuric, Subliminal, Strictly Rhythm were heavily influenced in our sets. Our tastes changed by 2007 where Chicago/Jackin House had become our focus, the adaptability of the music was what captured it for us, being able to use soul, hiphop, Jazz or disco samples in a more upbeat fashion gave us something unique to offer as the genre within the UK was relatively unknown. Fast Forward 10 years and we entered the lower levels of BPM looking at those original Disco and soul records which provided us those sensational funky loops & samples 10 years previously has kept our fascination of re-edits and reworks of originals. 

2018 kicked off our Strut2Disco events, a party designed to offer the coastal area of Newcastle a insight to those artists & influential DJ's providing us with some of the most creative Disco edits and reworks out there, past and present.

Ray Mang is Laj is Raj Gupta. One of the premier disco producers since way back when and still clocking forwards in a future fashion with no sign of letting up. He landed his first 12” Number One in ’96 on Noid Recordings gaining widespread support in the clubs and on compilations. He has taken that wonky party sound and kept it moving on ever since.  He also runs the label Mangled and has released across too many labels to mention. He is prolific with the quality control on high.

He launched his own label Mangled in ’98 with a slew of killer 12-inches. Two albums followed: ‘Mangled’ (Eskimo) and ‘Mangled Again’ on his own imprint, as well as singles on R&S, Smash Hit and Bear Funk. Recent hits include ‘Bullet Proof’ on DFA featuring Lady Miss Kier, a disco-house reimagining of a P-funk classic; and the blissed-out Balearic gem ‘Look Into My Eyes’ which instantly became a firm favourite for many.

His many talents as a musician and producer have driven a wealth of collaborations: in bands Block 16 and Motif on seminal ’90s label Nuphonic; as Laj with the Idjut Boys on U-Star, or with Quakerman on their own Fiasco imprint; and with close musical acquaintances The Glimmers, Foolish Felix, Lee Tong and Nathan D’Troit.  More recently Ray has teamed up with Bill Brewster to form Mang Dynasty.  In all his guises Ray Mang is one of the most prolific contributors to the UK disco/house canon.

As a remixer his phone never stops ringing.  He’s notched up credits for  Lassigue Bendthaus, Banda Black Rio, Gorillaz, Shirley Bassey, Grand National, Beck, Roxy Music / Bryan Ferry, Doves, The Phenomenal Handclap Band, Freddie Mercury, Bloc Party, Munk, Rob Garza, Friendly Fires, Classixx, S-Express, Daniel Grau & Los Amigos Invisibles with Dimitri From Paris to name just a few.
 
As a globe trotting DJ he plays at festivals, clubs, bars and on beaches in some of the most beautiful locations around the world.  His incendiary sets blend house, disco, boogie, cosmic, balearic, latin, afro, along with anything that takes his fancy and sneak previews of his own forthcoming monsters.  As happy playing peak time Saturday night as he is providing the soundtrack to your sunset moment in paradise.  Recent trips have taken him to Brazil, USA, Bali, Japan, Australia, Mexico, Croatia, Ibiza and all over Europe. He has also become a regular at festivals like Electric Elephant, Festival No 6, Campo Sancho and Mareh & O/NDA in Brazil.

Julius Papp is one whose dedication to music has propelled his career as a producer and DJ in the dance/club music scene. His dance music roots lie in Disco of the 70’s and New Wave of the 80’s. Presently living in San Francisco, he was born and raised in Montreal, Canada, and got tuned into dance music through the city’s flourishing club scene and diverse radio broadcasts. He started collecting vinyl records in the mid 70’s and took to the turntables in 1985, scoring his first major club gig two years later.
 
Hearing the non-stop flow of music and observing the booth where each DJ seamlessly blended each selection were early influences for Julius. Later influences included reading about DJ residencies that were piloted by talented club music programmers that even today, influence the youngest of aspiring DJs.  Legends, like David Mancuso at The Loft & Larry Levan at the Paradise Garage in New York City to Frankie Knuckles at The Warehouse in Chicago and Tony Humphries’ weekly at Zanzibar in New Jersey.  Always sparked by any music listed in those articles, Julius would shop for those titles that have become classics, worshipped by their discerning audiences. To this day, his goal is to keep expanding his foundation in music by being open-minded and eclectic in absorbing the music that truly touches him.
 
That open-minded attitude is what Julius uses to fine-tune his musical palette, which gives him a dominant sound that exudes a deep and soulful perspective.  That dominant sound is (Soulful) House Music – which to him, is about an uplifting positive message. People coming together in unity, with no barriers or restrictions, but rather, with tolerance and the spirit of music, unifying everyone on the dance-floor.  That being said, he blends various musical styles together - including Soul, Latin, Afro, Disco, Jazz and Electronic sounds with such fluidity, that it is difficult at times to put a defining stamp on his sound. Contributing to that is his willingness to take a chance. He always tries to push the envelope by introducing music that deserves exposure, taking his audience on a musical journey with various mood and energy changes.
Not content to limiting his ambitions in the DJ booth, Julius began producing music in 1994. The studio was another outlet for Julius’ creative ideas to flow. His first release was a down-tempo project on the Acid Jazz tip.  He also drew attention as part of the jazz and funk scene in San Francisco via the Mushroom Jazz parties alongside creator and resident Mark Farina.
 
As Julius’s production catalogue grew, so did the amount of labels he released music on including – long tenured labels like “Nervous Records” (NYC), “King Street Sounds” (NYC), “Large Music” (Chicago) and “OM” (SF), to signings on “Soulfuric Recordings” (FL) and Kenny Dope’s “Dope Wax” (NYC) label, as well as Bob Sinclar’s  “Yellow Productions” in Paris. In 2018, Julius released his Phunk Odyssey EP on Miguel Migs’ “Salted Music” label. Co-hosting the long running Salted SF events with Migs, it was an honor to make his artist debut on the label.
 
He also ventured into the label arena with his own “NeoDisco Music” imprint.  Named after the sound that continues to inspire him – the small, independent label offers him an alternate outlet to release his own productions.

During the past 2 years through the pandemic, Julius has remained active with live DJ sets via virtual broadcasts while also returning to regular events in front of a welcoming dance-floor… Let The Music Play…
