So, yeah, news flash everyone: I'm doing an EP of these. I was hoping to have released it last Monday, but I feel a bit short on time for recording and decided to use the additional time to try and secure an artist for the album art (which I'm still not certain will come through, but I'm hoping!).

I hinted at this track a while ago on Twitter, so I decided to make this the track I release to hold you all over. What are the other three tracks covered on the EP? You'll just have to wait and see. ;)

Resurrected from an XM that I made for competing at Remedy 1995. I think it came in second. 

I wanted to give this song a fresh take, since the original arrangement had some dodgy samples, an awkward groove and a pretty shitty mix.

I like this version better.

The original Elecfunk module has a great human feel to it, and I tried to recreate that atmosphere of a loose, playful jam session. Romeo Knight contributed some great guitar tracks, which helped seal the deal.

It's been a great pleasure re-imagining this classic track by the legendary Moby, and to bring my own twist to it. It was always an inspiring song, and helped me realize just how crazy you could be with tracked music.

Livin' Insanity

This big thing is my musical play through The Legend Of Zelda : A Link To The Past. It's actually a fully-reengineered version of my 2005 Dwelling of Duels entry that goes by the same name. I went through this again for the sole purpose of properly celebrating 10 years of activity within the VGM remixing community.


The opening Triforce jingle is a short prologue showing the listener what to expect : I blended the original note sequence from the game with a transcripted version using high quality sounds, to reflect the quality transformation of the whole arrangement.


The overall structure remains the same as it was, with most of Koji Kondo's original soundtrack being revisited in the gameplay order, but it underwent a full instrumental reworking along with in-depth harmonic and rhythmic upgrades. As a result, the song is also longer than before, mostly because of time signature and tempo adjustments. A complete breakdown of all the changes is probably unnecessary, but below are various specific ones I can think of :

- An organ is now playing alongside the other instruments during the whole song or so
- Both dungeons theme now feature a more progressive approach
- Full reprogramming of the drums
- Emphasised ska section in Kakariko
- A few playful pauses or silly melody alterations such as the one in Hyrule Castle (2)
- Guitars play richer stuff than before
- Overall better production


Fun fact : to complete this, I've recorded more than 2400 instrument takes, as usual for the sake of hunting the magical accidents that uplift each part of the song - especially on the leads.

Evol Intent - Disconnect

It's remake time, folks! Didn't manage to find the original release date for the song, but my best guess would be somewhere around 1996 or so, going by samples and technique. 

Usually, these remixes are a juicy stew of old and new -- I always start with bounced tracks from OpenMPT, and replace things like kicks and basses to clear up the mix. In this case, however, almost nothing survived since the mix was such a mess. The most rewarding part came when I finally nailed the drums (four layers of full kits!) and got to work on the brass. The song really came alive at that point, and the rest of the time was spent fiddling with the organ, which was the major copy-paste offender.

Oh, and the name differs slightly from the original, to avoid infringing on the trademark of a certain fast food chain.

Bad Monday, the main "smash hit" from my performance at #vrnfest. I've been asked a number of times to release a studio recording of it, so here it is. My big gratitude goes to Emnily for making this song twice better (initially I planned to sing alone). And thanks to Monk for suggesting to do a duet with Emnily.

The idea to mix Blue Monday — the classic synth-pop hit by New Order — and Touhou fans creation — Bad Apple — came to me immediately after the first listen to the latter because they have very similar drum patterns. My arrangement was heavily influenced by Orgy's fantastic cover of Blue Monday. I was pretty surprised by the lacking of such mashups/mixes (except one poor quality mashup I found on YouTube).

A medley of some of my released songs. This track is a continuous work in progress, not likely to ever be finished.

The last part (07:30) is an adaptation of Fair Play to the Queen, and was added as a tribute to a dear friend (and a huge presence in the Swedish demoscene) who passed away in May 2015.

This is C64 retro band 6581 performing the theme from Bombo at Back in Time Live Stockholm 2008. 6581 consisted of Reyn Ouwehand (MacMagix), Eike Steffen (Romeo Knight), Andreas Wallström (Morpheus) and Anders Larsson. Bombo was originally written by Ben Daglish.

If you can remember the C64 golden era, you will remember Tim Follin and his hellbent SIDs. This actual tune is a conversion of the original Capcom game but it became a breathing, organic beast in Follin's hands. I heard some of the other platforms and Tim topped them all. 

Making this was a lucky roller coaster ride as my treble perception was reduced temporarily due to flu so I did not know what I was doing with the sound, plus a black cat stalked into the studio in the back and sat on a couch that I could not notice and a horror chasing-screaming-fallin-off scene was started as neither of us knew who is who and what is when the lights were off and I made a sudden move that scared the cat. Finally, I gave him some milk and we became friends. Cappy became our yard commander in the following 2 years until he disappeared suddenly around March of 2011. Rest in Peace, black boy.
