Our obsession with the machine lies at the heart of all electronic music. But what sets the best electronic producers apart is their ability to harness technology to create sounds that are as emotional as they are innovative – something that shines through Andrew Bayer’s debut LP ‘It’s Artificial’.

Touching on everything from Flying Lotus-esque glitch-hop and leftfield electronica to swirling melodic techno and warped electro, ‘It’s Artificial’ is the sound of a maverick musician using his machines to their fullest.  

Having previously collaborated with BT, Norwegian producer Boom Jinx and Above & Beyond on their second artist album ‘Group Therapy’, Andrew Bayer’s recent solo productions have marked him out as a unique talent on the Anjunabeats label. The diverse sound of his ‘Distractions’ EP hit top spot in the Beatport electronica chart, received high praise from DJ Magazine and gained DJ support from Henry Saiz, Hernan Cattaneo and Dave Seaman.

Classically trained, the US producer first came to the fore as part of transatlantic trance duo Signalrunners – responsible for classic Anjunabeats releases like ‘Aria Epica’ and ‘These Shoulders’.  

Always leaning towards the more experimental areas of sound, his obsession with composition was refracted through a different lens when he studied at the famed Berklee College Of Music. Absorbing a range of avant-garde theory and advanced sound composition techniques, his writing style began to take a new, complex and deeply technical form – without losing sight of his core musical values 

This union of obsessively detailed sound design and classic music composition can be heard across ‘It’s Artificial’s eight tracks. Opening with the glitchy funk of ‘Nexus 6’ and the oddball orchestral ode ‘Dedicated To Boston’s Waste Management System’, it segues into the 4/4 groove with ‘Counting The Points’ – a beautifully schizophrenic epic that sounds like what would happen if Boards Of Canada and Deadmau5 ever collaborated. 

From the epic tech beast of ‘Monolith’ through the bouncy Balearic techno of ’Paper Cranes’ to the heavenly breakbeat of ‘From The Earth’, each subsequent track is as unique as the one before – often morphing from one into the other effortlessly. 

A compelling debut, ‘It’s Artificial’ signals the arrival of one of electronic music’s next great talents.

Above & Beyond have announced Andrew Bayer as opener for their upcoming Group Therapy shows at Shrine in Los Angeles and Warfield in San Francisco.  Here is a taste of what to expect, his live set from the recent Group Therapy event at Miami's stunning Bayfront Amphitheatre.
 
With 6 of his productions featuring on the recent Anjunadeep 04 compilation, the Washington-raised producer is one of the most prolific and eclectic producers in today's scene, with recent EPs and singles covering everything from deep house and downtempo electronica, to progressive and deep trance. A perfect snapshot of his eclectic experimentation, Bayer's debut album "It's Artificial" was released last summer and described by Mixmag as "an incredible album of sophisticated electronica". A second entirely downtempo album is planned for fall 2012.
 
After 10,000 #GroupTherapyLA tickets sold in under two hours and San Francisco's Warfield venue sold out in a record 12 minutes, 'Above & Beyond's Group Therapy shows rank among California's most hotly anticipated events this summer. To satisfy demand, additional dates have now been added at Shrine LA on Thursday May 17th and at Warfield in San Francisco on Thursday June 21.

With tours of Japan, Australia, Europe and USA already under his belt, and appearing at some of the world’s largest festivals including the iconic Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas, Tomorrowland in Belgium, and Global Gathering – he’s truly made his mark on the EDM scene. 

As a producer, Jaytech’s pedigree has long been recognised. Producing from just 14 and releasing his debut track at 16, the Australian’s unique melodic blends have been supported by DJs like Sasha, Armin, Tiësto and, of course, Above & Beyond. As a DJ, he remains a respected selector of new sounds, with his Jaytech Music podcasts regularly showcasing the best in modern progressive and his mixes for the “Anjunadeep” compilation series hitting number one twice in the iTunes dance chart, both with his Anjunadeep 02 compilation in 2010, ("Compilation of the month ****” -Mixmag) and again in 2011 with Anjunadeep 03. 

Both classy and club focused, “Multiverse” represented a natural juncture for Jaytech to elevate from Anjunadeep to the more main-room energies of Anjunabeats; a label responsible for hits like Above & Beyond’s “Sun & Moon”, Arty’s “Around The World” and Mat Zo’s “Bipolar”. Introducing tracks like the bleepy groove bomb “Epsilon” and the peak-time vocal anthem “Stranger” (featuring regular Dirty Vegas collaborator Steve Smith), “Multiverse” sees Jaytech explore with higher tempos than before; never losing the attention to detail and musicality he is loved for. 
 
Moments like the sun-soaked opener "Everglade" and the dramatic, piano breakdown of the album’s title track "Multiverse" offer impeccable updates of Jaytech's classic sound, while an updated rework of last year’s piano house anthem “New Vibe” brings a new groove to the tune. Rounding out the album are tracks like light-and-dark musical breakbeat growler “Blue Ocean” and Vitalic-esque “Diode” offering a journey into Jaytech’s own musical space.
