COVID For CHRISTMAS

"Hydrangea" confronts the endeavors that we wish we could have done earlier on in life, and urges the listener to go do that very thing today anyway. We all fall into the trap of the "normal life", which we later find out is largely unfulfilling- but that's okay- here comes another day.

With my head in the sky, they said,

In a normal life'

At twenty five, I dreamed of moving across the country to live on the West coast with my partner- but having to quit my seemingly "important" soul sucking day job as a consequence was a huge deterrent. These were hypothetical conversations that ran through my head when I thought about telling my loved ones. I spent that year in stagnation, afraid. When I was twenty six, as the year's Spring season arrived, I quit my job and moved to the West Coast with my wife and two cats. Everything I was afraid of losing and all of the related consequences were real and exist to this day (*gasp* a gap on your resume!)- and entirely worth it. I learned not to fear them because in the end, the scarcity and instability it caused forced me to grow in a direction that I actually cared to grow in (which happened to be my music career that would have otherwise never seen the light of day).

𝘼𝙣𝙙 𝙖𝙛𝙩𝙚𝙧, 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙡𝙚𝙛𝙩

A short fugue for a woodwind quintet.  The midi files are played back using instrument samples.  The result is somewhat better than a midi file, but still far from a live performance.  Instrumentation is flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn.
