Nostalgia can be triggered by a range of sensory cues, such as smells, sounds, and sights, as well as experiences and events that we associate with a particular time or place. It is often said that the older we get, the more we tend to romanticize the past, and this is reflected in the way that we tend to view our nostalgic memories.

One of the key characteristics of nostalgic memories is that they tend to be highly emotional and evocative, and can transport us back in time to a particular moment or experience in our lives. This can be a powerful and comforting experience, as it allows us to relive positive experiences from our past and feel a sense of connection to our past selves and our personal histories.

However, nostalgia can also have a downside, as it can lead to feelings of melancholy, sadness, and loss. When we are nostalgic, we are often idealizing the past, and this can create a sense of dissatisfaction or disappointment with the present. In some cases, nostalgia can even lead to a sense of disconnection or alienation from the present, as we struggle to reconcile our idealized memories of the past with the reality of our current lives.

Overall, nostalgic memories are a complex and multifaceted phenomenon that can have both positive and negative effects on our emotional well-being. While they can be a source of comfort and connection to our personal histories, they can also create feelings of sadness and disconnection from the present. Tell Me A Story / re:piano (2018)

Written and recorded over 2 days in South East London, ‘Carried’ is a collaborative EP from violinist Fiona Brice, cellist Tony Woollard and composer/producer Jim Perkins. The project began as an antidote to the sometimes laborious academic tradition of composing, scoring, revising, rehearsing, recording, editing and producing music. 

Each piece was created without score or prior preparation, relying on instinct, discussion and collaboration, with a focus on capturing the energy and essence of an idea whilst it is still fresh. 

The result is a suite of 5 emotive, meditative and distinctive pieces combining drones, elements of minimalism and chamber music with textured harmonics and the occasional melodic line. ‘Carried’ honours the spontaneity and spark of a new idea and nurtures it, creating a deeply engaging and cinematic sound.

Hello,

Today marks the 88th day of the year, same number as the keys of the piano and likeminded piano people from all over the world, fight the recent health crisis by continuing to live their lives and by celebrating their beloved instrument. Many piano shows cancelled (mine included), many composers, tuners, movers, struggle to make ends meet, but "Piano Day" is here again, to keep the spirits up, and spread a message of hope. After all, music will never be quarantined! ;)

This year I contribute with "The Treeman", my latest composition which I composed, performed & recorded only yesterday, at home. It is about this strange isolation, of not being able to move, like if we voluntarily grew roots on our feet, against our social nature. Like trees trapped away from their forest.

Ashot Danielyan is a pianist and film composer. He composes music in a variety of genres such as Classical, Ambient, New Age and Experimental music. His favourite instrument remains the piano, which he includes prominently in most of his music. Ashot composes music for movies, short films, trailers, presentations and advertising. Also he creates remixes, including the music of Mike Oldfield, Hannah Georgas, CoMa, Bajofondo Tango Club, Hans Zimmer, Dirk Maassen, Wolf Saga.
Ashot Danielyan was:
- semi-finalist of “The International Songwriting Competition” with his
instrumental composition “Shadows”;
- semi-finalist of “The UK Songwriting Contest” with “Vanilla Dawn”,
“Where I’m”, “Heart Beat”, “A way to the Eastland”, and “The girl in
