Splankify

Born in the depths of subterranean groove gatherings, Backbeat Underground is a Washington, DC based instrumental funk group with soul jazz influences. Bringing their years of collective experience in the DC and NYC music scenes, the band delivers tight, energetic sets steeped in fresh improvisation and head-bopping, booty-shaking pockets. Backbeat Underground was proud to serve as stewards of the funk in DC’s first and second annual Funk Parade, and the band is quickly gaining notoriety for their organic and smoldering blend of soulful funk and jazz.

igloo two’s digital grit, pocket-based percussion, and enchanted melodic themes lead a curious listener to faraway sonic landscapes. Experimenting with live instruments, drum machines, synths, and effects, they plant each song within a modern feel of soul, video game, and espionage motifs. Collaborating together as composers, multi-instrumentalists, performers, producers, and sound engineers, igloo two have an ear to the future that only awakens from their respect of music past.

Hailing from the Washington DC area, the Empresarios are adept at mixing diverse cultures and sounds together. This five man collective led by Javier Miranda (Vocals, Congas, Producer) alongside John Bowen (Video DJ, Producer), Paul Chaconas (Guitar, Bass, Keys, Producer, Engineer), Sonny Cheeba (Brazilian/Latin DJ, Producer) and Sammy Arsam Khosh (House DJ, Producer) bring their own personal style to every track. There is no shortage of creativity among these talented musicians and DJs and their influences, from downtempo, dub, Latin, house, trip-hop and reggaeton can all be heard in their definitive, eclectic sound.

The "Ambassadors of Style" return with their fourth full-length recording, 12 Mile High, on Thievery Corporation’s ESL Music. Rob Myers, Steve Raskin and Sid Barcelona are the masterminds behind Thunderball.  This Washington, DC-based trio are globally renowned purveyors of sophisticated, stereophonic-thrillers, and cinematic dub. Since 1997 their productions have shifted effortlessly between the genres of drum’n’bass, dub and downtempo, building a strong following for their signature sound. 12 Mile High marks the return of the Thunderball trio from their duties with the venerable breakbeat production group Fort Knox Five.
