With the second release on Local Talks reissue sub label, 1nce Again we bring back one of our personal underground favourites from the golden age of house music (the early 90s). Back in 1994 Mateo & Matos released an EP on Black Label Records entitled Raw Elements, which included an amazing cut called “Maw Basics”. Its one of those raw 90s house jams that got the house “bump” but without the “pump”, its rough and funky but still deep if you know what we mean? No cheese in sight! Together with the original track (now fully re-mastered) we also asked Gerd (4lux, NY Stomp) to make a remix that would stay true to the original but still bring it to the next level. The result is absolutely amazing and we’re pretty confident that this baby will deliver knock out punches every time it blasts through a proper sound system in a proper club.

Straight out of Toronto's fast rising electronic underground comes Parallel Minds, a fresh imprint dedicated to releasing "progressive electronic music" from the Canadian city. This debut release boasts cuts from the imprint's three founders Ciel, Yohei S and Daniel 58, as well as guest artist Radiant Aura Faculty. There's much to admire throughout, from the dubby sub-bass, bouncy Afro-house drums and clonking electronics of Yohei S' "Eastern Rankin", to the chiming dub house/dusty deep house fusion of Daniel 58's warm-but-robotic "Space Bubble". Sweatier, rave-inspired breakbeat antics are provided via the loved-up vocal samples and low-end weightiness of Radiant Aura Faculty's "Mana Sadhana", while Ciel's "Hind Sight Is 360" gets just the right balance between driving machine beats, glassy-eyed intent and dreamy, head-in-the-clouds electronics.

We are proud to showcase more Bay Area family with the release of a new EP by Doc Sleep @docsleep who cut her chops as a DJ in San Francisco’s vibrant scene the past decade. In 2016 she made the move to Berlin and became a resident of Room 4 Resistance. Since 2013, she's been the co-owner of @jacktonerecords which specializes in techno, ambient, and experimental electronics. In 2016/2017 she released her first 12's on the Hot Mass-affiliated Detour Records and Bottom Forty. She also co-wrote a track with Bezier and Nicole Ginelli, titled “Stranger,” that we released on the ‘Primes’ EP in 2017. Her latest release, ‘Your Ruling Planet’, was released on Jacktone in March 2019.
We first heard “Creme Fraiche” on Doc’s soundcloud page and begged to release it. The track has the feel-good vibes you get on early morning dancefloors as things are winding down or up. Paired on the A-side is an updated version of the pulsating dark jam “Never Eating Again” that originally appeared on ‘Run The Length Of Your Wildness V.2’ and, like that compilation, proceeds from this track will be donated to Ghost Ship Fire victim Cherushii's family. On the B-side are two remixes from close friends of Doc. First up is a fresh breakbeat remix from Violet @violet : DJ, producer, boss of Naive records, co-founder of Rádio Quântica, and mina resident shaking up Lisbon's nightlife. Second is Berlin-based producer and fellow R4R resident, rRoxymore @rroxymore  who presents an innovative remix of future-facing techno and bass variations adding her own vocals on top. For this release we’ve teamed up with Jacktone to release a cassette version, our first in this format, featuring two peak-time bonus tracks. All songs have been mastered by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. Each copy is housed in jacket designed by Eloise Leigh with neon pink and lavender gradients echo morning sunrises with a collage of dreamy elements using a photo by Doc of Club Toilet in Detroit.

Paramida made her name as an integral part of the new Berlin school of DJs embracing a more expansive sound, a charismatic and eclectic idealism beyond the steady, straight-forward pulse of house and techno. Following five years at the city’s diverse OYE Records store, and alongside an international schedule of DJing, she has spent the previous five crafting her Love On The Rocks label in that same generous spirit. 

Now, with half a decade passed, she has called upon many of the label’s previous associates, alongside some new faces, to curate a four-disc compilation produced upon the adventurous and personal principles upon which the label was founded. The title of the collection is ‘Supergau’, which Paramida explains to mean "A disaster beyond all expectations". It’s a typically pithy title for a label that’s found a unique groove between dancefloor fulfillment and surprising turns, keeping it’s dedicated buyers and open-minded DJs on their toes, just as Paramida likes it. Still, it hasn’t always been easy.

“Those 5 years didn't fly by,'' admits Paramida. “I had moments of doubts and thoughts about stopping the label. But something inside didn't let it happen. So whatever I'm doing with the label is something that is so deeply rooted in me that I'm not ready to stop yet. This compilation represents five years of ups and downs, tears and joy, growing, losing and finding itself again. I've never really questioned or reflected it much. The label has been pretty much a mirror of my personal life, my taste at a certain point and the artist or person that was involved in my life at that particular stage of my life. As such, I want to give this first chapter of Love On The Rocks a nice closure.”

Some artists on the compilation return to the fold, such including Fantastic Man, Massimiliano Pagliara, Violet, ELLES, Etbonz, Dirk Leyers and Alex Kassian. Others are featured for the first time such as Francis Inferno Orchestra, Bartellow and Eric Duncan. And others again are a complete surprise, including Kornél Kovács, Daniela La Luz and Hermann Kristoffersen. ‘5 Years of Love On The Rocks’ presents an opportunity for artists to explore the charismatic boundaries between house, disco, new wave and acid, with the shared goal of sheer dancefloor bliss.

“Every record I put out felt like a message I'm sending out into the universe”, explains Paramida. “And everyone featured on this compilation is someone I deeply connect with, even though it's a pretty unexpected mix of artists. Here’s to the next five years.”

Basic Moves continue their mission to showcase the forgotten corners of electronic music from their home country of Belgium. Making his return to the label for the third time, and the twelfth label release, is Sebastian S. under his Caustic 14 moniker, this time with a batch of exclusive tracks produced between 1993 and 1996. His textural sound shines brightly over the six tracks; a healthy mix of crisp breaks, jungle drum workouts and bleepy electro. To quote the label "these compositions emerged during many sleepless nights spent watching videos of science fiction series such as Babylon 5 or Star Trek, scrutinising each episode while composing. Behind these six pieces are six keywords that have a story: BWP, PK, Network, D-jacking Zone Elypsia, Planet-E and Brussels! Another fantastic release from Basic Moves showcasing the rich history of Belgium.

There was a sign which hung above the door in the waiting room as he sat patiently to be called for his appointment. The receptionist had been kind upon his entry and had offered him a cup of tea before he sat down. She'd wished him happiness, sent him down the corridor and along the hallway to wait for his turn. Anyway, back to the sign... It read rather condescendingly "hope you are well". It was a message used everyday all over the world, the reality of the phrase meant very little indeed, in fact it was about as insincere as could be yet here he was staring at the words once again. 

RIP Swirl is back on Public Possession with a new EP. Abstract glitchy electronics and hip hop inspired skits comprised what is an interesting mash up of sorts on a new 12" release forthcoming.

Headcast 25 sees the light and comes from @malte_magnum. The mix, full of breaks and electro jewels, was crafted in the Central German Metropolitan Region, more specifically in Halle - or was it in Leipzig?
We got to know Malte hanging at a lake shore in Lithuania during a little rave camp where we enjoyed having one or another secco. Without fulfilling the diverse high-level agreements we made in Lithuania, we met again at another cosmic gathering in Chemnitz where we renewed our ambition to arrange something for the future. A party exchange on a North-East axis was the plan, but as Covid is still keeping us busy, we are happy about Malte's Headcast delivery.. for now! What's not, can still be or not?
Do not miss to also check his multiple mixes and appearance as 1/2 of 808 POPPING RANGERS. You will notice that there is definitely a good taste of music around.
