"From The Broken Stone" tells the story of a legacy that was never planned, but born from the cracks of the past. It begins with a whispered nightmare, journeys through a cinematic rock ballad filled with pain and hope, culminates in a cathartic instrumental storm, and finally finds peace in a reconciliatory, orchestral epilogue. It is a narrative of how the deepest wounds can become windows, and how new hope can grow from the rubble of a life.

This work would not have been possible without the pioneers of epic, narrative rock. It is a deep and respectful homage to the musical vision of bands like Deep Purple (for the soulful Hammond organ and explosive dynamics), Manfred Mann's Earth Band (for the sound-painting synthesizers and anthemic choruses), and Marillion (for the courage to tell complex, suite-like stories).

This epic does not attempt to copy them, but to honor their spirit: the spirit of a music that takes its time, that delves deep, and that takes the listener on a journey from which they return changed. We invite you to embark on this journey.

Jay Olivine is Ziggy Stardust’s fourth favourite lyricist in Northeast Brisbane. 

He is a hitless wonder who scratches out demos in a dark booth beneath his kitchen. 

Sometimes he adds distortion to cover the snores of his dog. Sometimes he gets away with an acoustic number. 

His dream (not his dog’s dream) would be to license his lyrics to someone who would take them somewhere beautiful. He keeps dreaming. 

Olivine is a common green rock. Jay Olivine is not.

Je suis un artiste polyvalent, à la fois auteur-compositeur, interprète, créateur musical et formateur MAO sur Studio One et Ableton live. 
Tout a commencé par ma passion pour la musique. Les notes, les rythmes, les harmonies – tout cela m’envoûtait. Mais ce n’était pas suffisant. Je voulais créer, façonner, donner vie à mes propres sons.

C’est alors que j’ai découvert la MAO. L’idée de produire de la musique à l’aide d’outils numériques m’a captivé. J’ai plongé tête la première dans cet univers, assoiffé d’apprendre et de maîtriser chaque logiciel essentiel. Studio One et Ableton Live sont devenus mes compagnons de route, mes pinceaux pour peindre des paysages sonores.

J’ai expérimenté. J’ai fusionné des rythmes électroniques avec des mélodies envoûtantes. J’ai sculpté des textures sonores, explorant le sound design comme un alchimiste moderne. La synthèse sonore et l’échantillonnage ont été mes terrains de jeu, mes laboratoires secrets.

Et puis, après avoir acquis des compétences solides, j’ai franchi une étape décisive : j’ai ouvert mon propre studio. Studio David est né. Ici, je forme d’autres passionnés, je les guide dans l’art complexe de la production musicale. Ensemble, nous créons, nous affinons, nous donnons vie à des émotions en notes et en fréquences.

Mon parcours dans la MAO est une histoire de passion, d’apprentissage et de création. Et je ne compte pas m’arrêter là. Je me forme constamment, je reste à l’affût des dernières technologies et tendances. Car la musique, c’est bien plus qu’un métier pour moi. C’est une vibration, un souffle qui traverse le monde.

I'm a songwriter and performer from Portland Oregon. My music has been sampled by DJ Shadow on his 2003 release Diminishing Returns and covered by: Pink Flames (The Vinyl Factory 2016), Electric Child House (2017) and Astronauts etc (Backatcha Records 2019). Backatcha Records also re-released the early seventies psych-rock grail, Just A Star that I co-wrote with Larry Smith for UK Record Store Day 2019.
