Black in Mourning are a new post-punk / indie rock band out of New York City made up of current and former members of Subzero,  Into Another, Stabbing Westward, Youth of Today, Dead Heavens, Closer, Crippled Youth & others.

The music carries a broad spectrum of influences ranging from the classic new wave and post punk era to the modern sounds of today's indie rock and everything in between.

"Growing up during the 80's and early 90's, most of us were very much into bands like Joy Division, Bauhaus, Buzzcocks, Sisters of Mercy, The Cars, The Clash, Bowie, Iggy, etc. But at the same time, we were all coming up in the chaotic era of the New York hardcore, punk & metal scenes playing in bands alongside the likes of everyone from Agnostic Front, Cro-Mags and Sick of it All, to Slayer, Misfits and Motorhead. We still listen to and are inspired by all of the stuff from back then and tons of cool new stuff that's happening today. This band was kind of a natural progression for all of us, I guess. The blend of influences are obvious, but it also stands out as it's own sound. We never set out to make a song that sounds like this band or that band...we just wrote what we felt.
