Captain! Captain!

Another obsession this week. This time it's Jack's. I originally started this cover of "Jack’s Obsession" from The Nightmare Before Christmas as a straight remake for practice... but somewhere along the way, it morphed and I had some fun on the bass and guitar.

Danny Elfman's original is, of course, untouchably brilliant, so this is more of a lovingly unhinged half-tribute, half-improvisation. Think of it as a Halloween Town fever dream, part orchestral, part rock.

This song itself is a musical sequel to 'Adventures in your Sleep' from my first originals album. It's always felt like a bit of a theme tune of mine, so I really wanted to approach the track from a different angle. This rendition feels much bigger and bolder. Which one do you prefer - the version on the first album or this new one? Answers in the comments!
