SENTIR-ME VELHO

Dói-me tudo, e mais alguma coisa.
E, o que não me dói, já não funciona.
Porém, se o meu espírito é eterno,
como poderia eu sentir-me um velho?
Passo nesta vida como se nada de finito houvesse.
Não concebo a morte senão como um futuro aberto
para sonhos distantes.
Mas hoje compreendi que sou um velho,
quando ela passou por mim, e não me reconheceu.

FEELING OLD
Everything aches in me,
and what doesn't ache no longer works.
But, if my spirit is eternal,
how could I feel like an old man?
I go throughout this life as if there was nothing finite.
I do not conceive death, except as an open future
for distant dreams.
But today I realized that I am an old man,
when she walked past me, and didn't recognize me.
