It's been almost a year since the @sarmism debut album "Lessons" was released on Bricolage. That particular album was conceived and recorded during that infamous first lockdown period of spring/summer 2020.

This new record is the flip side of the coin, gone are the frustrations of prolonged periods indoors, replaced with the ability to see and appreciate the outside world anew.

"Wander Lands" is a bold and colourful musical statement from the Manchester producer. It blends together touches of glitch, IDM, electronica, ambient, techno and breaks.

Hypnotic, modular loops sit alongside vibrant synth work and uplifting pads that are brought in and out of focus through the haze of warm bass and gloopy but pristine sound design.

There's moments of atmospheric subtlety and deep listening that are counteracted by bursts of percussive chaos. The knack for laying down fantastic beats has long been a forte of Sarmism and here on "Wander Lands" those crisp patterns once again propel the music to another dimension as a myriad of sputtering rhythms push and pull the modular soundscapes to new heights.

An album that is rich and diverse in tone, texture and life. You are invited to wander...

As autumn approaches we return south of the border to reap the fruits of the ever prolific Dark Fidelity Hi Fi.

Fresh from his "Beautiful Fragments" album, back in March, the inimitable producer returns with part two of the story in the form of "Migration Of The Meaning".

An atmospheric lesson in the meeting of electronics and live instrument sampling that does it best to once again defy any category or genre.

This new album flickers between the signature DFHF sounds of whispered melodics, hovering synths and warm analogue dubs whilst flirting with a new cerebral approach that allows the sound palettes to evolve into shimmering tonal landscapes full of minimal but dreamy horizons. Music that will glow in the shadows or the light.

Multi-layered fine details and the focus on small movements to create aural travelogues give us a peek into the cinema of the mind of DFHF during his search for the "meaning". It's meandering and still at the same time in there but more importantly it's glistening and evolving.

Almost a full year after "Bangers and Mash" it seems Steve Hadfield is finally ready to serve up dessert...

"Rhubarb and Custard" takes the recipe for last years chaotic EP and decides to lump even more spoonfuls of havoc into the mix.

This latest release from the Leeds based producer cranks up the tempo in more ways than one. Drill n bass, industrial and braindance ethos all collide into each other for one huge maelstrom of percussion heavy electronics.

"Cinema Roll" is the calm before the storm, luring you into a false sense of security with its spacey bleeps and unthreatening tones before diverting into an outro of abrasive noise that put a marker down for the rest of the EP. From here on in it gets wild. Gone are the gleeful elements from the "Bangers and Mash" release, replaced with much darker, almost mad scientist type, tones. "Palate Cleanser" and "Petits 4/4's" both offer some intermittent respite and a slightly more playful mood before we return each time to full throttle madness, dense low ends and frenzied percussive assaults.

Sometimes we all go a little crazy. "Rhubarb and Custard" is a fresh batch of bedlam from the warped side of Steve Hadfield.
