Moog Messenger, running through a single instance of ValhallaFutureVerb™. The Frozen reverb mode in FutureVerb is being used to turn the monophonic synth into a synth pad with a soft attack, a much longer duration, and ensemble style modulation.

3 tracks of Moog Messenger (main 5th chord, FM shortwave sounds, arpeggiated high notes). CR-78 and 909 bass drum samples from Ableton. ValhallaFutureVerb™ used for reverb, spring reverb, and echoes.

Messenger From The Void

Minimalist drums through ValhallaFutureVerb™, with the Echo section being used to create a pseudo spring reverb. Fuzz guitars (D*A*M Meathead on the left, Basic Audio Scarab Deluxe on the right) processed through FutureVerb, using the ReverseOctUp echo mode to create a shimmered reverb sound. The shimmered reverb is processed by AutoPan in Live, generating a synth-esque trance gate sound.

Acoustic Guitar and FutureVerb

Gibson Rosewood J-45 acoustic guitar through two instances of ValhallaFutureVerb™. One of the FutureVerbs is adding a shimmered reverb with octave up, using the Sparkle echo mode. The other FutureVerb is using the LoFi echo mode as predelay in order to add 60s experimental echoed reverb.

Roland TR-1000 drum machine, triggering Don Gunn's own drum samples, processed through Nonlin mode of ValhallaFutureVerb™. 2 Moog Messenger tracks running through different FutureVerb presets, adding echo, reverb and shimmer.

Don Gunn on drums, recorded through a Nordic Audio Labs NU-24K large diaphragm condenser mic. Drums processed with the Nonlin reverb mode in ValhallaFutureVerb™. There's a "subtle" touch of the FutureVerb Plate reverb mode at the end of the track.

I started playing around with synthesizers and digital audio workstations in the early 2000's when computers were finally able to process audio on a serious level. My first DAW was a program called "Orion", which is still around actually. I thought it was the coolest thing, until I discovered FL Studio, which at the time was called "Fruity Loops". It blew the lid off what I thought was possible and opened up a whole new set of possibilities for me. Ten years later, a plethora of new innovative programs have flooded the market. It's impossible to say which program is best, but nowadays I use Ableton Live as my go-to, but FL Studio is still a terrific program.

As an instrumentalist I am a guitarist, but as a musician I am a producer of ambient music. I have no desire to show off and impress you with blazing guitar solos or razzle-dazzle you with arpeggios flying at you at 260 beats-per-minute. I want to reach you. I want to say something without saying it. I want to present you with a blank canvas and let you decide what the picture looks like, and where you fit into it. But most of all, I want to make music that I enjoy listening to. Ambient music is typically characterized by its vastness. I want to get lost in that vastness. Come get lost with me.
