Following his latest contribution to Innervisions Limbo compilation and a personal EP on TAU, Skatman returns to his home of Scatcity Records, offering up his second album Aromanticism.

This eight track collection defines Skatman's current artistic direction as well as his vision for the future of his label and the melodic scene. We see him bring his sound forward as a more minimalistic approach to the deep and melodic sounds that have shaped him over the years.

Skatman’s mission with this LP is to bring back the integrity to the sound he loves, taking it to a new level and triggering a change of direction within the niche that is melodic electronic music. The name ‘Aromanticism’ is a reference to the revolutionary aspect of the realism movement that happened as a reaction to what dominated art and literature in the age of romanticism in the 19th century.

’New Era’ is up first, introducing you to the album with delicate lead lines and a mellow, broken house groove that eases you into the sound of Skatman. ’Sophie Maria’ is again melodically driven, with a soft underlying bass line carrying reverb soaked chords and twinkling flurries of synth patterns.

Skatman starts to darken the mood with ‘Moonlight Shadows’, bringing much tripper and adverse sounds to the stage, paving the way perfectly for the more minimal sounds of ‘Orient Maze’.

‘Intergalactic Knights’ launches into vinyl number two with echoing snare hits and more mind boggling hooks before the chugging, meatier ‘Words Don’t Make Sense’ storms through with an ethereal vocal sample and marching percussion.

‘Purple Rain’ begins the journey back to earth with rattling hi-hats carrying reverb-drenched leads and a monotonous bass line. Closing the show is the title track ‘Aromanticism’ which sees Skatman offer up a groovier percussive backbone and 80s influenced pads, gelling around a slightly acidic bass foundation.

Aromanticism LP lands March 26th on Scatcity Records with a special 4 track vinyl edition running alongside the digital.

Renga Weh lives somewhere in an abandoned mine. He collects nuts that can only be found in the blue hour and nibbles them in his velvet-clad cave. He builds instruments from their shells and plays them from midnight until daybreak. He distributed demo tapes to the five largest dwarfs in the forest. They invited him as a live act to their group wedding with the five smallest giantesses in the forest. He played the piano all night long and everyone agreed: this was a warm part Alfons, the taciturn sound engineer of the forest, recorded the evening. These ten recordings are now artfully glued together with the saliva of elves and appear as Renga Weh's debut album "Reality Check“.

Constantly reimagining the way they make noise, the Brigado Crew have experimented endlessly to construct this retro-super-futuristic dynamo.

Channeling the groundswell of optimism from the ‘good old days,’ the Brigado Crew work all kinds of collaborative miracles, using modern production techniques to lend the album some depth and tension.

From the live studio recordings made on original 80’s synthesizers to the myriad of feature artists, ‘Symbiosis’ takes a broad brush to the sonic palette.

The ephemerally haunted vocals of Jessica Zese soar over post-disco grooves in the opening track ‘Calamity’. The softly-focused synths of this cut are a balm to the propulsive, industrial heartbeat of the album.

Always upping the ante is Ubbah, who serves up his signature deep, dark techno vibes in many of the album’s peak-time cuts.

More than Human and Haptic embody futurism with a nod to 80’s acid rave, the alienesque vocals of Haptic floating through ‘Voids of Space,’ a cut which is just gagging to be played out on a really loud sound system.

You’ll be leaning into the cascading percussive shakedowns and diving deep into the chant-along lyrics of esteemed British producer & vocalist Thomas Gandey in ‘Find You’, a totally Shazamable cut.

Another secret weapon in your arsenal of dance-floor ready bangers is ‘Face the Music’. Featuring the anthemic vocals of Aves Volare, this cut commands movement, its tremulous basslines creating a sensation of motion that shimmers in the air.

8kays delivers a convincingly hard edge to ‘Robotic Destination’, a hot-blooded, club-focused track that gets all up in your face.

Dipping in and out of post-post-modernism, while reaching far into the great beyond, ‘Symbiosis’ ordains the Brigado Crew as the patron saints of future-forward throwbacks.

Adana Twins return to Watergate Records with a magnificent four-tracker that begs for a summer dancefloor (but the tracks are that good, they’ll be played for a while to come).

Since their label debut in 2017 with ‘Flower of Cane’, Adana Twins have become firm favourites of the Oberbaumbrücke crew. From handling mix duties on ‘Watergate 25’ to holding down regular gigs at the club prior to 2020, the Hamburg duo always deliver. 

‘The Curve’ is their first release on WG since 2019’s cracking remixes of Josh Wink’s ‘Higher State of Consciousness’. The title track is a big bouncy electro cut packed with plenty of groove. A super fun production sure to bring a smile to your face. ‘Cyrus’ belongs in a motion picture and is epic in composition. It traverses cyborg breaks before moving into a retro key-laden riff, all the while driven by a powerful ‘Silence / Violence’ vocal. This was made for a big festival moment. ‘Alone’ is the emotional final. At first propelled by an ‘80s synth and airy pads before a shimmering lead takes control and pushes the track into celestial terrain. The digital version finds ‘Nimbus’ as a bonus track of the release.

Jos & Eli return for their second outing on Watergate with esteemed vocalist Alex Clare, as they follow up last year’s outstanding Mozar EP.

The Israeli pair possess a distinct sound signature, crafting beautiful dancefloor creations, imbued with chunky percussion and sonic inflections from their homeland. ‘Mayhem’ EP sees them at their beguiling best.

‘Inner Sky’ is characterised by flowering synths that bloom and recede in giddying formations, backed up with a heady array of noises which buzz in the background, all the while a steady groove is maintained throughout. Afterlife wunderkind Stephan Jolk is recruited for remixing duties and brings swells of dreamy melody and subtle washes of Balearic to Jos & Eli’s original. 

A name familiar to many after his single ‘Too Close’ was nominated for a BRIT award in 2011, Alex Clare blesses the EP with his vocals on ‘Mistake’. Driven by a gutsy guitar-driven bottom end that gives the composition a distinct Americana vibe, it’s a cut big on vibes that’s begging to be played at a dusty festival as the sun sets over the horizon. The title track ‘Mayhem’ rounds out the four-track package, a persistent synapse-tickling synth driving the track throughout.

Jos & Eli - Inner Sky

Tantum! The out-of-the-box artist based in Germany, ready to take the world by storm! The globally renowned label, Lost & Found released Tantum's debut in August 2020. However, he has produced another breathtaking release that will make a massive impact on the international scene. The two trance-inducing tracks last for almost fourteen minutes, making the hypersonic aircraft flights seem slow. The attention to detail and a stellar production make the arrangements trippy, mind-expanding, and hallucinogenic. Tantum created the material for an audience with a refined taste. The high-fidelity sound aims for the more experienced members of the global community following the label. Tantum's music is like a binge with a bottle of expensive champagne. Cheers!

Munich's Benjamin Fröhlich, co-founder of the Permanent Vacation label, takes his turn on one of the most influential tracks in electronic music: "How Much Are They?"

Originally released in 1981 on the album “Full Circle”, "How Much Are They?" is a genre defying collaboration between Dub wizard Jah Wobble and Can's Jaki Liebezeit and Holger Czukay. With the combination of Dub elements, punk bassline and drum machine percussion the track is a blueprint for electronic music and ahead of its time in many ways. No surprise, it quickly became a staple in clubs from New York to Berlin.

Through the years the track was a big inspiration for Benjamin. His careful cover version updates "How much are They" for today's dancefloors, while maintaining the original atmosphere. Originally his version was part of LAGASTA's 10-year anniversary compilation. Now it gets the official release and finds the perfect home in Glasgow's Optimo Music imprint backed up with two remixes by Chicken Lips and Daniel Bortz. 

Andrew Meecham and  Dean Meredith revive their Chicken Lips moniker, that was responsible for a whole movement of Disco-Dub in the early to mid 2000's, and prove that they haven't lost any of the magic. German wonder boy Daniel Bortz reinvents himself and comes up with a heavy bass-driven version that sits somewhere between Jungle, Dub and early Techno. Ok, let's go!
