Andrzej Karalow – Some whispers of mists and water above, hidden in the rocks (2024) for clarinet, violin, cello and piano

The work is inspired by japanese poetry dedicated to landscapes, nature and its atmosphere and it reflects the sound and mood of constantly flowing water. In the steadiness of the subtle wall of sound, I try to integrate and mix timbres of all of the instruments. This composition can be connected to ambiental sounds, to static structures, which are slowly fluctuating or evolving over time. It can be also connected to water flowing through the waterfall.

Andrzej Karalow - Luminous Gardens (2024) for vocal-instrumental ensemble and fixed electronics

Luminous Gardens is an ambient space in which the listener freely chooses the path, voices and layers to listen to. The structure of the composition consists of consonances, harmonic structures that shape the narration and segments of individual parts-sound gardens. The musical material consists of vocal-instrumental motifs separated by sections of silence and processed field recordings interspersed with pads recorded with the original Roland Juno-6 synthesizer.
Light, sound "organisms", space, reverberation - these are the main features that make up the sound environment of Luminous Gardens.
The composition was written for Hashtag Ensemble.

A solo bass piece that I've been working on for a couple of weeks. The bass is tuned C F Bb Eb G C.

Ghosts

Throughout history, alchemists have captivated our minds with their quests to turn base materials into gold and seek the philosopher's stone. Their work was shrouded in metaphor and mystery, embodying a desire to understand the universe's hidden truths. Similarly, this collection of sounds endeavors to evoke the essence of that magical process. Each composition is a carefully crafted distillation of emotions, imagery, and ideas, resonating with the transformative powers attributed to the alchemical arts.

In Alchemies, Paul Beaudoin blends orchestral textures with glitch and noise elements, creating a sonic alchemy that mirrors the ancient quest for transformation. These contrasting sound worlds—organic and synthetic, refined and raw—come together in a seamless dialogue, embodying the fusion of disparate materials that the alchemists sought.

The album weaves through an auditory landscape, transporting you to the Fire of Calcination, where raw elements are purified, or the ethereal Black Sun, where shadows and light intertwine. As you listen, imagine the delicate Golden Transmutation—the alchemical transformation of sound and silence into rich tapestries of experience. Each track is an invitation to engage with the mysteries at the intersection of sound and spirit, reminiscent of the alchemist’s laboratory, filled with curiosity and wonder.

Join Ambient Cat on this journey as we explore the tenets of alchemy through sound, delving into the Salt of the Earth and emerging into the Albedo Phase, where clarity and illumination reign. Each piece is a gateway into an imaginative realm where transformation and transcendence occur—much like the alchemists sought, through their craft, to unlock the hidden potential of the universe.

A god shaped hole. The barren desolation of a fallen and failed creation. You see the light of long dead stars. Your existence is nothing but an echo of a dying god's screams. The unseen converges. Surrounds you. And it tightens like a noose.

Another collection of loose tracks I've made over the years, some were made over a decade ago. Several of these are from films I've worked on. Others are pieces I've never found a home for. Throughout the project you will hear a lot of piano. Some from virtual instruments, and several are actual recording of me playing on my father's Samick. I also used his Tascam 388 on a few tracks to gain some hiss and warmt. Many imperfections in this project, and I like that. I think this is probably my most vulnerable release, and feels the most like myself. Hope you enjoy something from this offering.
