For this edition of the Forsvarlig Podcast Series we have Berlin-based Blazej Malinowski behind the decks. Originally from Poland, he is the founder and curator of the Inner Tension label, which features a variety of his own work as well as upcoming artists in the scene. His other work has been released on established labels such as Kontrafaktum, Semantica, Silent Season and The Gods Planet. As for the nearby future, he'll release a stellar remix of Svarog’s 'Passengers' next week on PROPHET Recordings. Be sure to check that one out as well.

In this mix Blazej has selected some work of both well-known and rising artists in the scene, something we thoroughly enjoy. Altered states are stimulated with tracks that make a perfect fit. Expect a deep blend of hypnotic rhythms and organic techno with chiming textures. Enjoy.

Gabriele Salerno aka Hekum has a new EP “Developing of Origins” out soon on Faut Section.  Composed of four tracks, the EP is specially designed for the dance floor. Focusing on rhythmic and intersected grooves along with metallic overtones that gives a sense of roughness throughout the EP. 

“Mentally Unstable” is a track filled with syncopated and fervent rhythms that forges a dirty and futuristic atmosphere.

Very happy to have Jephta deliver this week’s mix and kickstart 2022. As both organizer and resident of the Embodiment event series, Jephta secures the spirit of a particularly strong movement. Their no-nonsense vision of pure, fierce grooves has been successfully pushed over the last years through eventful celebrations and the rock-solid ‘SALON’ mix series. We will definitely stay patient and look forward to joining one of their next nights at Rotterdam’s Perron when the dust has settled.

A variety of frequencies ranging within ambient and transforming into deeper, raw techno conveys an experience where others can learn to dance with both the dark and the light of life.

Ish Anja like to carry sounds within her mixes that give others a feeling of familiarity, where they have been to that specific place or to a place unknown. The feeling where those listening chose contentment and euphoria, so that they can use it to carry themselves forward into whichever way resonates. She has loved sharing sounds with others since she was younger, and is now continuing to do so around Melbourne as she shapes her sound into who she truly is and what she wants to bring to others in her sounds and in the music community - depth, curiosity, unity, exploration, and a euphoric, familiar feeling that is sometimes hard for all of us to explain.

Premiere: Brian Cid - Golden Key - Infinite Depth

'A year after the debut EP of Brian Cid on the label, we are very happy to announce that he is back with a new one titled 'Message X'. Again, really abstract and hypnotic productions, with a very high tension. This collection of tracks is a journey that slowly evolves itself into a real exploration.

The first track ‘Shoreless Ocean’ is the slowest one of the three and has a great groove on the low-end in combination with its percussion. Its repeating main synth brings you in a hypnotic state of mind after which some surprising elements come to the front. 

‘Golden Key’ transits this state of mind into the track. On top of its static, but yet dynamic and groove-creating percussion, some very extraterrestrial synths are hovering its way throughout the arrangement. 

The final track is the title track of the EP. Here the tempo goes up more in order to go towards an impressive techno experience. The track consists of long-stretched atmospheric elements with a fast-tempo deep stab below, which reaches a real depth around the middle of the composition. After this depth a unique use of snares has been implemented by this great producer. '

Chakra journey number 4. This one starts out pretty tough in the lower sections and takes a bit to find its feet. Both Vril and Luke Slater help form a discombobulated earthly realm at the front end of this mix. By the time we get to the invocation of Architectural's masterful synth workout in 2020 Disco Clash, tickling the Solar Plexus and inviting the Heart Centre into receivership mode, we launch into some seriously sublime upper frequency activity. Robert Babicz's take on Dan Corso's New World is out of this world and sits so sweetly between the Heart and Throat Centres, launching the mix into an extended exploration around the Throat centre before illuminating in indigo dayglo brilliance the intuitive centre of the Third Eye, courtesy of OPML favourite Joachim Spieth, and the brilliant Monoloc, whose retro The Untold Way is surely an under appreciated masterpiece. Svaorg's Birds hits the Crown note beautifully to end the journey.

Olympic Pool Maintenance League (OPML) was born in Invercargill, New Zealand and produces electronic experimental, ambient, hypnotic, broken beat and techno music. OPML has released on numerous national and international labels including Mord (Bareknuckle Boxing Vols. 1-3, Herdersamt Box Set 34-40), Postdynamic (New Faces Vol. 1+2), Natura Viva (Tornado), Sunora (The Warp Order LP, Dawn Wind, Fook Yue Remixes), Occultech (Pipe Dreams EP), and Brisbane's Pocketmoth (The Calming Cloud).

OPML operates Maintenance League Records, a platform for the artist and a small selection of producers to release dance-floor and experimental productions.

The artists debut vinyl EP was released through Diffuse Reality in 2023 and features remixes by Giorgio Gigli and Head Front Panel. 

Olympic Pool Maintenance League has performed live in Australia at Sub Rosa, Caesars Nightclub, The Station, The Cave, The Walls Art Space, KEPK Art Space, Tweed River Regional Gallery and Grafton Regional Gallery. OPML live sets combine its music with video art developed by artist Chris Bennie. The League is currently based in Brisbane, Australia.
