Nominated at the 2015 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards and celebrated by The Telegraph as “one of Britain’s top folk musicians” Ange Hardy has grabbed the attention of the traditional folk music world by writing new material and embracing modern technologies whilst maintaining a traditional feel.

Alongside a staggering list of other accolades Ange was awarded FATEA Magazine’s “Female Vocalist of the Year” in 2013, “Album of the Year” in 2014 and “The Tradition Award” in 2015.

As a solo artist Ange performs with a 27-string Salvi Harp, three different guitars, a variety of low whistles, a bodhrán drum, a tambourine, and an Indian shruti box. Combined with her innovative and subtle use of live looping to build layers up vocal harmonies she’s one of the most diverse solo-artists you're likely to encounter.

In 2016 Ange is touring as a duo with Lukas Drinkwater who brings double bass, backing vocals, another guitar and a bold new dynamic to the stage.

When it comes to music, i like many different styles and genres... So for me the idea of following a certain pattern or style on every song, to me, it's something that i personally don't feel attracted too. When i sit down to write an idea for a song, i simply write and record what comes out naturally. I don't try to match the songs. I don't try to fit it into a style or try to make it sound like the previous one or the one coming next. I played metal music all my life. Still do. And GRITOS (which is the Portuguese word for screams) is where i can just do and write what i want without having to explain to the other members why or what the fuck i am doing. Kelly Oliver is a singer-songwriter, guitarist and harmonicist, described by The Times as an artist who 'blends traditional with bold, indie-pop'.  Her debut album 'This Land', funded by an Emerging Excellence Award by Help Musicians UK, gained a 4* review from The Telegraph and her second album 'Bedlam' was included in The Sunday Times Essential New Releases, was in Paul Sexton's Top 20 Albums of the Year in Prog Magazine and was nominated for Best Album from a Female Artist 2016 by Folkwords.  Her last five singles have all gained BBC Radio 2 and BBC 6 Music airplay and she performed her summer single 'Rio' on BBC One's Sunday Morning Live for her first national TV appearance.  Kelly tours the UK predominantly as a solo artist and was awarded Best Female Solo Artist and Breakout Artist in the 2015/2016 NMG Awards as well as winning Best Female Artist 2016 in the FATEA Awards.  She attended the 2017 Folk Alliance International in Kansas, USA, as one of their Official Showcase Artists and has performed in Europe on a debut tour of Germany and in Portugal at Costa del Folk Festival.  Festival highlights include a Club Tent Showcase at Cambridge Folk Festival, Folk By The Oak, Camp Bestival and Standon Calling plus others.  She has supported artists including Cara Dillon, Phil Beer, Barbara Dixon and CC Smugglers and played live with Dave Swarbrick, Luke Jackson and Lukas Drinkwater among others. 

Kelly is releasing her third studio album, 'Botany Bay', on 28th September 2018.  'Botany Bay' is a full, traditional English folk album, made up entirely of traditional folk songs collected in Kelly's home county of Hertfordshire.  The songs have all been arranged by Kelly and her producer Stu Hanna, with Stu's vibrant and punchy production complimenting Kelly's contemporary and distinctive style.  The album features a prestigious list of guest musicians, including Phil Beer, Luke Jackson, Lukas Drinkwater and Jamie Francis, Toby Shaer and Evan Carson. Since the birth of the label in 1997, FatCat has always had a solid engagement with material sent to us as demos. Where numerous labels will throw demos straight into the trash unopened, at FatCat we've always made an effort to listen and reply to every demo received. Numerous FatCat artists have been picked up having been discovered in this way (including Frightened Rabbit, The Twilight Sad, David Karsten Daniels, Welcome, Odonis Odonis, Get Back Guinozzi!, Silje Nes, Ensemble, Xinlisupreme, Songs Of Green Pheasant, Janek Schaefer - to name just a few), and it has always been really exciting to unexpectedly discover something great in this way. Just as when we started, this philosophy of keeping an ear to the ground and attempting to support good new creativity remains at the core of what we do.

With rapid changes in technology of recent years, the majority of demos are now sent to us electronically, but we are still happy to receive material through the post as CDs (please mark as 'demo submission' and mail FatCat Records, PO Box 3400, Brighton, BN1 4WG). Whilst we are still receiving a high quantity of demos, with our ever-busy release schedule and ongoing commitments to an expanding roster of signed artists, FatCat are now finding fewer opportunities to physically release material from new artists. As an antidote to this, back in 2004, we began using our website to showcase the best of the demos we were receiving. Alongside a DIY microsite built specifically to help people who wanted to release their own music, we hosted the our favourite demos online, with artwork and MP3s available for free download. In 2010 we began to use the more immediate freedom of SoundCloud as a platform - setting up a dropbox for people to submit tracks to and a player on the front of our site to showcase the best demo submissions. 

In February 2012, the new and improved FatCat demo site you are now using was launched, again using SoundCloud as the engine to drive the site. We have kept all of the the original demo artists on the new site - grouping them in collections archived by year. There is a lot of really great material stored away here, so please do spend some time looking around. 

The choices of who we have asked to join this archive are highly selective, and we make no apologies for this. These are tracks we consider to be really good quality material, tracks that we are happy to help promote and to have associated with FatCat.
