In the Australian winter, Pied Currawongs often form flocks and search out fruiting trees to raid. I set up my recording gear in front of a native Lilli Pilli tree in full fruit, and it was only a matter of time before the currawongs arrived and enjoyed one of their winter parties!

The call of the huge Helmeted Hornbill is almost as amazing as it's appearance . About 5ft in length including the long tail, these large hornbills mainly eat fruits in the rainforest canopy. 

The call in it's entirety is sometimes up to 5 minutes long, a gradually accelerating series of notes ending in a maniacal cackle.

Between the months of March & May in south-eastern Australia, large numbers of Yellow-faced & White-naped Honeyeaters migrate north through the Blue Mountains into their winter feeding areas further afield. This recording was made just after dawn in Wollemi National Park and captured the sounds of flocks of honeyeaters as well as other bird species moving through the forest on a cool autumn morning.

This recording was captured right in front of my tent at a little after 5am on the side of the Chattooga River. The section I was camping near was very calm and saw many people fishing and tubing on the river each day. Luckily traffic was minimal this morning and I was able to record some pristine nature sounds!

Recorded with a Sony D100 on a tripod, sensitivity 10.
