The rhythmic aspect of this composition is based on Euclidean rhythms (a salutation to the Greek mathematician Euclid!).
In 2005 Goldfried Toussaint published the article "The Euclidean algorithm generates traditional musical rhythms" (http://cgm.cs.mcgill.ca/~godfried/publications/banff.pdf). In this article he defines and explains the concept of Euclidean rhythm . These rhythms are so called because they can be obtained using the famous Euclid algorithm that allows us to obtain the greatest common divisor of two numbers. Using this algorithm, rhythms are achieved in which the accented beats of the measure are evenly distributed among the non-accented beats and the uniformity that is achieved is the maximum possible. The interest is that many of the prominent rhythms of world traditional music have this Euclidean rhythm arrangement.
Specifically, in this piece I have used four Euclidean rhythms, corresponding to the following popular music: "Cumbia Colombiana", "Tresillo Cubano", "Cinquillo Cubano", a bell rhythm from West Africa.
With a pair of numbers, the first indicating the number of downbeats and the second the total number of beats in the measure and using the sign   x   to represent the accented beats and the sign   .   for the weak, the cited rhythms can be represented like this:
 
"Cumbia Colombiana" :   E(3,4) = [x. x x]
"Tresillo Cubano ":    E(3,8) =  [x. . x. . x.]
"Cinquillo Cubano ":    E(5,8) = [x. x x. x x.]
West African bell rhythm:   E(7,12) =  [x. x x. x. x x. x.]

The intention has been to obtain a festive music for a certain celebration.

To contrast with such joy and to give a little more variety, in the harmony I have used more ambiguous and somber elements such as the fourth chords and also the four musical modes that I have used: Dorian, Aeolian, Phrygian and Locrian.

In the symphonic instrumentation, it is worth highlighting the inclusion of four saxophones, two sopranos and two tenors and also the absence of percussion instruments with the intention of achieving strong rhythmic sensations implicitly only with melodic instruments.

''I could have lived differently" describes the discrepancy between society's expectations and individual dreams and desires. Deep, clean sounds of the cello form the basis for an emotional and building violin melody creating a harmonious, cinematic string composition full of hope, that is characterized by Middle Eastern/Asian influences. I play acoustic violin here and also added cello lines.

The story behind it:
‘In my life, I was always at a crossroads. Between interests and pursuing my dreams and what society and family wants me to do. I could have lived differently. It is about the story of all the people who decide not to be like everyone else in the world. They have the courage to live differently the way they want to live. This is for those who say I will live differently if I go back in time. They go to their dreams without fear; however, Modern life and the world community make all people a completely identical  version and do not respect the different talents of individuals.’

Lights Out In Wonderland

Today, I'm listening to an upcoming release on Bigo & Twigetti, titled From the Deep, collecting five pieces by different composers, all performed by a newly formed Curve Ensemble. "Taking their name from the arc shape they perform in, Curve Ensemble is made up of a group of friends who met playing with many of the major orchestras and chamber ensembles on platforms throughout the UK and abroad." This is a collective of musicians, each bringing their own unique experience to the entire whole, turning original compositions into emotional, heartfelt, and honest music. These immersive performances include works from Angus MacRae, Jim Perkins, Tony Woollard, Anna De Bruin and Daniel Hewson. For my introduction to this upcoming album, I've selected a piece by none other than the founder of this London-based imprint, Jim Perkins. It's a deceptively simple composition, demonstrating how even the most unadorned melody can transform the delivery in the hands of the performers who truly connect with its message. Recently I was diagnosed with two brain tumors.  I will have surgery in the near future.  With surgery I am told I have a 50% chance to lose hearing in my left ear. One tumor is growing in size on the hearing/balance nerve and in the inner auditory canal. This song is part of my new album that I will release before surgery.
