The legendary poet Haji Gora Haji left this world on June 11, 2021. This is a great loss to Swahili culture and traditions, as Mzee Haji was the oldest living poet on the islands of Zanzibar. May he rest in poetry, may he return to the heaven of the seas. 

This song was composed and performed by Maembe Vitali, a beloved folk musician based in Bagamoyo, and shared widely over the weekend after Haji passed away. The song is called "Salamu kwa Haji" or "Greetings for Haji."

Another performance off Dorphanage: Kumbukumbu. I started out as a rapper before finding home in spoken word but I've never rapped at any of my other events. This I wrote as a verse for a cypher that didn't quite happen and so I felt that it's something I needed to share during my last showcase hence this attempt. I also feel like I need to indulge the rapper in me more so maybe you might be seeing more experiments in future but time will tell.
