An Ode to Magic

This song is about those things in your life that you cannot change. Those times when something breaks in a way that simply can't be fixed. Great personal loss. The loss of a loved one. If I were to put a finger on it, we can simply call it separation anxiety.

I wrote this upon seeing the pain that my mother-in-law's loss of her pet dog caused her. That coupled with the horrors of Alzheimer's caused her to relive the loss, freshly. But, in truth, such loss is experienced a thousand times, even without Alzheimer's... in covers on a dog bed that are now empty, in one fewer dog bowl set out to be filled, in a fleeting sound that sounds might have been your beloved dog, but then you remember that time has past.

And, with my dog going into sudden congestive heart failure, now I'm feeling this song deeper. I think it's beautiful, but it's also very sad.
