In January 1921, some 100 hundred years ago, the renowned writer D.H. Lawrence set sail for Sardinia, joined by his wife Frieda. He produced a critically acclaimed travel novel called Sea and Sardinia, reflecting his observations as he traveled. His creative use of language and expression adds colour to his reflections. To mark the centenary of the journey, film director Daniele Marzeddu and his crew returned, to retrace these steps.

After a year of working on this project, Return to Sea and Sardinia now sees the light of day and will be presented to the public in a series of screenings or digital viewings. The film has been produced and Organised by The Visual Guys, with the support of the D.H. Lawrence Society of Great Britain and features Daniele’s vivid imagery. The current state of modern Sardinia and its neighbouring island Sicily is laid out as a documentary film and our very own Glåsbird has produced an original soundtrack to accompany the visuals, and local accounts provided by the islands’ inhabitants.

Glåsbird has produced several geographic based sound interpretations since beginning their mysterious project in 2018. They describe this soundtrack as a ‘vacation’ from the on-going ‘A Sonic Expedition’ series, yet it has been approached in a similar way to this musician’s work: the cycle of inspiration, research and more inspiration. Daniele gave the artist free-reign to sketch out stories from afar, into these sound-postcards. We are delighted to be able to present the Original Soundtrack for Return To Sea and Sardinia, in an edition of 300 CDrs, featuring a 32 page book of photographic stills and captions, to give a flavour of the film.

Sometimes it’s not enough to pick out the right chords, to write out the melody, sprinkle the notes. Sometimes it’s not enough to play the right instruments, hire the orchestra, space out the mics. Take a listen to some “fake Spotify artists” and you’ll know that it’s true. It seems that these copycats have all the ingredients, but the dish still tastes lukewarm. That is because their course is lacking the true soul of a master which they’ve poured into each piece. That’s the ingredient not listed on the recipe. Now take a listen to this gorgeous track by a composer and visual art collective from LA named Sanctuary. It seems, oh, so simple, straightforward, and plain, and yet, when you play it, it beams with emotion, dynamically charged and expanded within. It’s ripe with that ‘something’ that Jóhann possessed – and that is the best compliment I can give to any new recommendation. “Crystalline, emotional orchestral and choral elements blend with intriguing foley. Sometimes intimate, sometimes epic, Sanctuary caresses dark themes with intense visual vignettes and haunting, widescreen music, challenging the audience to join them on an inward journey.” Released on Safari Riot, the collective offers up a debut of two EPs, both volumes out tomorrow, December 3rd. This is incredibly beautiful and cinematic, and I can’t wait for you to enjoy the rest of the pieces. But for now, here’s my favorite, titled “In Absolute.”

"In my mind ‘In Absolute’ is a very visual piece. Much like a close-up shot in a film, slowly zooming out to reveal an intricate scene, ‘In Absolute’ embodies the same feeling. A simple idea ever-expanding. It would not have been possible without the brilliant string and woodwind ensembles we recorded in Iceland last summer."

Don't let the cover art or the title of this track deceive you! Yes, there is a depiction of a samurai, and yes, Koi are the Japanese amur carp that swim in decorative outdoor ponds and water gardens, and yes, now that I'm thinking about it, there are elements of elegance and movement in the music that may transcend the title and the album art, but I promise you it's not a drill'n'bass track with some glitched out bass drops. The track I am premiering for you today is actually taken from Matt Emery's second instalment in the "Spotlight Series" for which, this time, he focuses on harp. For this series of EPs, Emery showcases the virtuosity, tonal range, and timbre-rich textures of each instrument. His previous entry for Injazero showcased the cello (see this track preview of "Anxiety Mist"), and featured a samurai, once again, preparing for the battle. And although the theme of a battle is still present on this EP, it is now enveloped with water. Hence the koi in the pond. Specifically composed by Emery for this stringed instrument, the piece is performed by the London-based Olivia Jageurs, who has recently won the Royal Philharmonic Trailblazer Award. Oh, and besides being a celebrated composer, Emery also produces an amazing Contemplative Podcast hosted in conjunction with Contemplative Classical and Headphone Commute!

DP-6 is a music project founded in 2000 by Vadim Indigo and Alexey Filin. The duo's work is deeply influenced by the electronic scene of the 1990s, which has shaped their unique style and artistic vision. A turning point for DP-6 came in 2003 with the release of their debut vinyl record.

In addition to composing music, Vadim and Alexey are the founders of DP-6 Records, a label that not only releases their own tracks but also supports the talents of other artists. DP-6 is also known for their successful remixes released on various labels.

Over the years, DP-6 has performed at numerous vibrant events across a wide geographical range, including their own parties under the DP-6 Records brand.
