Chillin’ at the Mega Buff Mansion, the low, steady thrum of the subwoofer reverberates through the floors, a subtle undertone to the rhythm of anticipation, another dimension. As the smooth groove of the vinyl turns on the table, samples traverse across the fibre optic cable. Arching impatiently into the software, sounds begin to reconfigurate and pulsate. A blend of musky, salty, and slightly sweet aromas emanate, fingertips gently slipping across keys, the synth groans as it drives its electrons into lush curves of overture. Bathed in the glow of ravishment, an album born from the very fabric of the Mansion, its grooves bear witness to the fusion of warm earthy passion.

Canadian ghetto house artist Garneau is launching his own imprint. Right off the heels of having his track remixed by living legend DJ Deeon, after previously working with Parris Mitchell, and currently working on a remix for another Dance Mania legend DJ Funk, Vancouver based producer and DJ, 'Garneau' is set to launch his own label titled https://soundcloud.com/clubdesigns (aka CD Music).

“I would describe Club Designs as a label dedicated to the new wave of producers whose styles are heavily influenced by the sounds of Chicago and Detroit in the formative years of electronic music” says Garneau. “The raw percussive sounds of ghetto house from labels like Dance mania and Cajual, as well as ghetto tech from Detroit artists like DJ Godfather and DJ Assault.”

“Our goal is to showcase the newest generation of producers keeping that vibe alive, while still focusing on the dancefloor. Expect lots of ghetto house, electro, some bmore-ish, a little Miami bass, and all around club focused music”.

We are aware that independent music is at a place right now where one should only be considering starting a new label if there’s a real necessity and purpose – if a scene, sound or artists cannot grow without the label’s guidance or platform. And for this style and group of people involved, we feel very strongly that a new, well-managed outlet is needed.

After making her debut into the world of dark, deconstructed club music on Infinite Machine in late 2017, Ani Klang is releasing her latest hard-hitting, genre-blending EP on Russian label, Hyperboloid Records to round out a busy year of releases in 2020.

‘BURN THE EMPIRE’ is a powerful statement piece seeking to disprove the pervasive belief that womxn and queer people are primarily working and creating music to “empower others.”

After growing frustrated with commentators deeming every bold piece of womxn-made art as an “outspoken feminist act” and forcing political causes on female/non-binary compositions when none are intended, Klang has challenged this trend and created a piece of work that is emphatically not an “empowering anthem for womxn everywhere.”

Armed with frustration, pain, and a little irony, Klang has built her own empire on the outskirts of genre, and all who are open are invited. She is releasing this record with hopes to begin dismantling the notion that womxn’s music is only meant to serve as a political weapon to fight misogyny. There must be something more meaningful womxn have to say to each other besides ‘you can do it too.’

She began grappling with this idea several years ago, when she felt pressured by the underground club community to be “outspoken” to have her music heard. In a 2018 Instagram post, she explained her frustrations as follows:

“I feel like being ‘outspoken’ is almost a prerequisite for being a successful woman at anything these days.It’s not enough to just be an artist who happens to be female – you have to empower women somehow and put your political opinions at the forefront of your art to be considered ‘relevant’. To be completely honest, I find it frustrating as hell. […] I want women to feel empowered but there are so many other creative ways to do this than just talking about feminism. We should be allowed to just BE artists who make records about death, masturbation, chocolate cake, or whatever the hell we want!”

‘BURN THE EMPIRE’ journeys from 145-160 BPM and showcases punchy, fluttery, footwork-inspired kick patterns, layers of heavily manipulated industrial textures and ironically political self-recorded samples (i.e. feminist podcasts, orgasms, and ex-girlfriends crying and singing) bound together by a rave-friendly mentality. Featuring scorching remixes by formidable artists like A.Fruit, Daniel Ruane, and Pixelord, ‘BURN THE EMPIRE’ is an intense sonic excursion through the mind and body of a female artist, eager to set the underground club scene on fire.

With match in hand, Ani Klang urges listeners to fully understand the following before organizing a livid mob armed with extinguishers on her front lawn:

“I am not intending to belittle or invalidate any collective or artist whose primary premise and passion is to empower others. Rather, I am encouraging commentators and listeners to understand and appreciate our unique concepts and technological capabilities before lazily assuming our artistic motivations.

It’s time we Burn the Empire of exhausted empowerment and construct our own domain, fortified by authenticity, legitimacy and resiliency. We’re are not examples, we are exasperated, and we’re gonna burn shit.”

* ‘womxn’ inclusively refers to any female-bodied or non-binary individual, queer or an otherwise unique human who deviates from standard cisgender identities.

Schooled to distinct musical classes and universes, geographically distant though highly compatible culturally speaking, Simo Cell and Abdullah Miniawy began collaborating in the winter of 2018, jamming and experimenting together at Simo’s studio in Pantin, in the suburbs of Paris. Merging Simo’s hypermodern, hip-hop and bass-infused production skills with Abdullah’s soulful trumpet and vocals hoodoo, their joint debut effort ‘Kill Me Or Negotiate’ lays the foundation to a body of work that transcends epochs, latitudes and other zeitgeistian concerns to weave a narrative arc both timeless and inwardly impactful throughout.
Having graced the grooves of an array of high-flying labels such as Livity Sound, BFDM, Timedance, Wisdom Teeth, Simo Cell has created a sound imaginarium truly his own, as exacting and complex in its overall structure as it invites to get rid of any prejudices towards restrictive terminologies and genre-bound limitations. An effervescing crossover of rehashed trap motifs, dub flexions and trenchant Bristolian programming, Simo’s sound reinvents bass music as we know it, exploring its core assets and fringes with equal poise and determination to make a difference. Defining his own craft as an «expression of religion, revolution and freedom», Abdullah Miniawy‘s the herald of a musical realm where music, faith and politics entangle to form a strikingly profound tableau of the human condition in an era of uncontrolled digital frenzy. Multiplying main projects and side-endeavours, whether it be joining forces with contemporary jazz whizz Erik Truffaz, Munich-based trio Carl Gari or through new collaborations with DJ HVAD and YOM, Miniawy’s keeping a position of choice as a spearhead of vanguard music, as attested by this debut EP alongside Simo Cell. The result goes way beyond expectations, pushing forth a uniquely free, mind-expanding brand of sufi-esque riddims and more ambientoid spaces for contemplation as it steers clear from normative club music to root deeper into socio-politically charged instrospection and thoughtful, elegiac body music.

French producer Bruit Fantôme is known since 2012 for some beautiful records between sytnhwave and electronica released on Alpage Records. He's also known under his monikers Musique d'Ambiance and Transistor Galaxii. That new EP on Tripalium Records firstly existed as a title and an idea: "My next album will be called “Robert Smith” and it will be recorded and listened to on tape". However it was not about The Cure’s coldwave, nor “Futur Noir” or “Vestiges” synthwave, the previous Bruit Fantôme’s EP. There wasn’t, besides of that, any desire to produce an album in a specific style but simply let the track writing came as it was. The result is an EP with 7 dark electro tunes, somewhere between Drexciya, UR, Aphex Twin or Mariel Ito.
