Arvid Wretman, AKA Your Planet Is Next, has assumed the role of musical storyteller with a serious mean streak of DIY electro. Wretman’s latest album tells its tale through the eyes of an imagined anti-hero. He conjures up the gritty underbelly of an over-populated megalopolis; a world of dilapidation, ruin and sin, where stiletto knives are a dime a dozen and our titular protagonist, the FOG MAN, stalks the streets. In an oddball tradition, there’s an absurdist, left-of-centre flex coursing throughout. This is the Stockholm native at his strangest, radiating fuck-off attitude and an embrace of imperfection as he maximises the potential of a limited studio setup. Bleak spoken word lyrics only serving to bolster the narrative storytelling, ‘Sad Fog’ paints a vivid picture of hardships endured, while ‘Fog Power’ resembles the inner dialogue of a man teetering at the edge of sanity. Think corrosive, industrial fug and rugged, tape-damaged torque. Through ‘No Fog’s menacing machine funk to the visceral, downbeat sleaze of ‘Freaks’ and queasy, Wolfenstein-sampling 'Eisenfaust’, the FOG MAN deals that dystopian gear in spades.

Info: I am happy to present our first tape release by The Jaffa Kid as part of the brand new Digital Artefacts series.

The series is an ode to the sound of the 90s, from Electro, IDM and Jungle to further different experimental stuff and sounds. The choice of tape as format seemed fitting for the aesthetic of the series.

The first EP comes from UK based The Jaffa Kid (previously on 030303, Dischi Nottetempo, Gated Recordings and more) and is a solid mixture of Electro, Techno and beyond.

They moved slowly across the desert sand, leaving a trail in their wake. The stars flickered up above against a deep coal sky, wispy and wondrous in the midst of the night. It might as well be night for the sun had never reached these parts, up on a distant planet far away from everything they’d ever known.

They’d been here for one week, amidst a barren landscape on the red ash. Perhaps this would one day become home but for now it felt as if everything was fighting against them in a bid to make them leave. Be it the cold wind of the morning or the raucous heat of the afternoon.

This was a wild world of a place.

DMX Krew continues his prolific form with the release of a new EP built upon deep, rugged, evil sounding electro for No Static / Automatic.

He clambered towards the ancient misshapen trunk and settled at the tree’s roots, under the thick canopy of dark green leaves that freed him from the sun’s unforgiving heat. Leaning back against the tree, he closed his eyes, exhaling a sigh of relief as he felt a gentle breeze wash over him. When he opened his eyes, he noticed a large green lizard with luminescent green scales looking directly at him. For more than just a moment, they stared each other down before the lizard quickly zipped away out of sight. Confused by this encounter, he began to process what had just happened, and then all of a sudden he felt the urge to eat a small insect.

Here the likes of reptiles and molluscs come together, as Amsterdam-based label Kalahari Oyster Cult presents Reptant’s Phasic Reflex 12”. The Australian musician, who also produces under the guise of Lou Karsh, has affirmed his skills with several recent releases on various imprints, including Craigie Knowes, Salt Mines and Planet Euphorique, but this marks his first EP with the Dutch label. This particular track, ‘A Realist's Realistic Reality’, is a sequence of meticulously organised and crafted synths and percussion, that perfectly displays Reptant’s hi-octane style that can cut right through any dancefloor.

PRZ strikes on eudemonia with an acid-influenced 4-track EP. The Tel Aviv based artist who runs Chateau Royal and is a resident from the oldest running party series in the Israeli metropolis called ‘PAG’ shows his darker side with a haunting blend of Italo House, Electro and Techno.
