Like any collaboration born from an idea, the quarantine forced Cali Burton and Ricardo Ruben to continue working online on the sound that the context was creating. The inevitable track was immersed in its verse: "Los amigos, fuimos clandestinos, privados de ser, privados de andar, con nuestro estilo", a cry from the depths or perhaps a longing in search of reviving the raver life, of trying to exorcise ourselves and learn from how the prohibition could also generate positive ways for creativity and yields its rewards. "Ritmo Furtivo" was their way of connecting from a distance, secretly, under the same beat.
A track full of "Madchenster" flavours and “West Coast” end 90’s /early 2000's psychedelic funk-house spirit from the golden era of label as Grayhound or Exist Dance.

Released in October last year on the rising & shining Buenos Aires/Madrid-based label Modula, the bold and well-received ten-original album “Yar” by Argentinian duo Voltage Controlled Illusion – V.C.I. for short – is now back with an interesting collection of remixes. On board, talents from many different corners of this doomed and cursed little blue dot we live on: Álvaro Cabana (RASTROLIVE003), Playa del Karma, Tucu (Tucu), Cosmosolar, Vleks, Ricardo Ruben (SXDNS103), Perrone, Prinze, Gueva (SXDNS292), and Mistery Kid (SXDNS398) held no punches and delivered insightful interpretations, resulting in a colourful and kaleidoscopical parcel.

If last year we had the opportunity to review the frenzied “Cursed”, we now give a go on the bossy rework cooked by Ricardo Ruben, one of the most prominent South American artists of his generation. After solid appearances on Playground, Controlla, Rotten City Files, Phisica, Side Up Works, Emerald & Doreen, and Bonkers, just to name a few, Ricardo debuts on Modula with a punchy interpretation of “Escandalo”. The plethora of acid of the original is still there, but now with the company of absurd percussive elements plus beautiful synth leads and layers that deliver a certain psychedelia to the theme.

 Velax is a music producer from Surgut, Russia. He started making electronic music in 2014, experimenting under various pseudonyms for several years, during this time he manages to become famous in his country, but is still in search of his own style. After 6 years, he finds himself in Dark Disco.
His music sets cosmic & space atmospheres along dark elements that comes influenced by artists like Daft Punk, GusGus & Curses.

Ivan Fedorovski is one of the well known indie-dance producers and DJs in Eastern Europe.  Based in Minsk/Belarus, in 2014 Fedorovski enters as a producer on the top label Lou Lou Records and releases several dance hits and collaborations with Kolombo .

Today, in his productions he experiments with different genres of modern dance electronics,mixing elements from indie-dance , space/dark-disco ,synth wave ,adding various samples from rock , disco and world music.

Isn't it funny how time flies, yet so little has happened? Does this change our conversations from the exhilarating to the downright dull? A constant and predictable loop of "what have you been up to?" and the equally predictable response of "not much". Yet amidst the elongated slumps in front of the television and the all to frequent lie-ins past midday, creative juices have been overflowing from all corners of the globe, and the results continue to speak for themselves...

Berlin's Ombra International, the ever on point label run by Curses and Fritz Galliani, find themselves coming out the other side of lockdown armed with a variety snack pack of music from across the globe. Dubbed as "powerful music in the fringe of all things WAVE", Ombra's 15th release features contributions via Turkey, Mexico, Italy, France and Canada, from Günce Aci, ALF CHAMPION, Daniel Monaco & Futurist, Blaues Einhorn and Robert E. Livingood, respectively. Our pick, from Blaues Einhorn, the new project of FLVN and Mrs. Charlie Lumberjack recorded during a session in Paris, matches low slung moody guitar riffs with commanding vocals that fuse German and French.

With tracks that will impress from start to finish, Pyrame is releasing 4 remixes - on his very own label Thisbe Recordings - of his newest EP: The Pace of Everything that Lives. With Radial Gaze, Days of Being Wild, Local Suicide and Skelesys all chiming in on the tracklist, be prepared for some dark and intense grooving to come out of this one. Combining the elements of disco, rock, industrial, and techno, these pioneering producers all have their unique ways of approaching Pyrame’s passionate themes of relationships, freedom, life, and love.

Next up are the French producers Franz Kirmann and Sam Berdah, behind the Days of Being Wild label, with their remix of The Pace of Everything that Lives. The two have taken this sombre and emotional track and given it a groovy and industrial paint job. Really embracing the oriental elements that Pyrame originally included, yet kicking it up a notch, they’ve almost changed the format completely with distorted mechanical synths that oscillate and vibrate, deciding to continuously layer these over the top of one another. Progressing further into the track, the producers known for creating “slightly deranged club music”, have kept the angelic euphoria from the original, but decided to isolate the voice during the breakdown to give you a taste of the enchanting world from beyond, as it effectively fills the track with a spooky and tension filled aura. A really interesting disco-noir approach to a progressive track.

The Remix EP of The Pace of Everything that Lives is set to be released on both Vinyl and Digital, on October 16th via Thisbe Recordings.

A dry lump had formed at the back of her throat, making it difficult to swallow. Her teeth clenched in sync with the rest of her body, the anxiety slowly creeping from her head to her toes. He took her hand and held it tightly, forcing her to focus on her breath and inhaled deeply. "You can do this" he muttered under his breath, "trust me". She looked up at him and smiled then, on the count of three, she braced herself and jumped.

Following contributions from the likes of Bufi, Colossio, Kincaid and Thomass Jackson, Hanzo & Yaman welcome a new member to their Belly Dance Services label, Tel Aviv-based producer Mishell. Tempting belly dancers from near and far, he makes his debut with Mac Que, two original cuts that match heavy percussion, hypnotic chants and darbuka driven soundscapes, backedup by remixes from the label bosses and I Lost My Poncho In Istanbul boss SEYL.

Julian Fleker is an artist from Argentina, a friend from our origins in the underground of Buenos Aires. Ricardo Ruben's project starting from the name to the artistic side face and composition takes a humorous place, although his musical background is serious. Ricardo Ruben is a character from a song by the 80's rock group Los Twists that carried a share of acid humor. It is then that the name of this Ep is not surprising, nor the way to face a different compositional work, wanting to highlight an idiosyncrasy of personal and local search.

“Sinatra is not dead, Yabran told me” plays with black humor and a story of an Argentine media gate. Yabran was a businessman accused of mafias and corruption that ended in a suicide case where everyone doubted his true death as someones think with Sinatra too. Ricardo Ruben is a drummer and the track is a tremendous banger full of percussions, and acid arpeggios of 303 in staccato where a real drum solo joins playing on top by rolling fills. A song that gallops sideways and that is a tractor pushing pistons like crazy. Weird, jazzy, creepy and bizarre black humor, really irresistible.

Santino Surfers walks the sunny latitudes of guitar music legacy to concoct an amorphous blend of chilled-out, soulful, and melodically lavish material. Imagine twangy 60’s black and white guitars splashed with neon color and dusty country rock curls in distorted gleam.

The ‘surf’ sound is prevalent throughout the work (hence the name), setting the dial at laid back, grooving and liberated moods that probe the frontiers of the psychedelic. The music is mostly instrumental with occasional visits by vocals and vocoders.

‘Three Corners One View’ is the second single. It sits comfortably bopping on an upbeat break, steady bass waving while guitars paint sweet and dreamy figures in the afternoon sky.

The latest Ant Bangos Festival podcast is provided by a young lady with a beautiful soul. Kaunas-based @gemayelsandra is a resident at the city’s famous Lizdas club. Seems like this was not enough for a breakthrough dj as 2020 brought her New Blood title at friendly Opium. Now it’s time to take a trip to the seaside with Sandra. Her groovy selection for an extended summer weekend in Nida sounds just great.

Resident DJ at Opium club, he is co-running a club-night “Smala”, which is also an extended family for him, with names such as 12 inčų po žeme, ivan Smagghe, Red Axes, Optimo, Vladimir Ivkovic.
Manfredas is envisioning this set in a very unique way, in his words:
“These days I usually have one day a week that is only listening to music, so basically it’s the abstract summary of that. Searching for new things, but also going deep into my personal archives. I dare to say most of it is dance music, but not for clubs. More like going into that strangle place in our heads where we dance now. I like that space, it's much more loose, not so much locked in usual tempos and structures.”
