Following on from January’s well loved Soulful Culture Volume 1, a compilation which was universally praised on release, Tribe label boss Zepherin Saint is now ready to let loose Volume 2 of what is a truly fantastic series in the making. 

Soulful Culture is a unique concept which see’s Zepherin delve deep into the Tribe Records annals to pinpoint some of the finest Soulful electronic gems from across the labels storied history. On this album he has given them a well deserved new lease of life combining them with some of his most cherished tracks from his DJ sets across the years. These are tracks which have been both inspirational and essential in Zepeherin Saint sets, go to cuts which he has supported time and again as he has traversed some of the finest venues the world over. The whole compilation is an inspired combination of soulful diversity featuring tracks which come from vastly different times, places and experiences yet which intertwine perfectly.

Volume 2 takes the concept on at a pace. Indeed, it’s an album which is brimming with some of the most sublimely talented producers who have graced the scene over the last couple of decades.

Stepping up to the production plate are Larry Heard, Louie Vega, Patrice Scott, Kai Alice, Trinidadian Deep, Timmy Regisford, Alex Attias and Arnold Jarvis. They are revered names from across the last three decades of House music. On Soulful Culture the stand side by side with names who over the last few years have begun to carve their own niche including Nathan Adams, Jose Carretas, Mi Casa, The Lounge Lizards, Deep Soul Syndicate, Oral Deep, Filipe Narciso and Devoted. They are artists from all sides of the globe showing the endless depth of what is a welcoming and life affirming scene. 

From deep percussion fuelled house through hypnotic acid tinged masterpieces and onwards via divine broken beat and soul bearing vocals this is an album which is quite simply brimming with depth and warmth. Featuring fourteen euphoric tracks it’s an album where every cut perfectly compliments those around it.

"Nina’s Talk" give off strong and mastered rhythmics; the energy of the tracks sends us directly to New Jersey of the 90’s. “Feelings” stays geographically close since it crawls in underground New York, where jazz and house music met.
“LL Tribute” is a spiritual connection between Chicago and NYC. It’s a hidden tribute to one of the main characters of the underground New York scene, between The Loft and Paradise Garage, where all social and cultural background were blending, dreaming of a passionate freedom.

"Everybody In is thrilled to start 2022 in dark mode with the sounds by St. Petersburg artist Alexey Sergeevich a.k.a. Nightdrive and his new EP ‘Inamoto’. Alexey graduated in accordion and moved into producing relatively recently in 2015. He has been particularly active in producing several dozen releases, cassettes and vinyl records for many labels worldwide.

The opener ‘Inamoto’ is a micro-house experiment that drives you into the 80's synth-pop era and goes even further, phasing patterns and melodic minimalism. Its resonant computer drums propel into the action of organic expressionism, rising into flight from its dusty origins.

‘Ray’ was born as a solo pad exercise, then evolved as a tech-house track. A beam piercing the clouds, imbuing an analog static with a synthetic expansive ambient sound.

The Ep closer ‘Arps’ is a techno banger doing much more, a transcontinental flight, a track that takes us to Manchester’s old-school rave parties on the outskirts of the capitals.

After releasing his debut “Brighter Future” last year, Belgian dj/producer Gratts returns with an EP showcasing his skill crafting emotive house cuts. Written while stuck in Adelaide in 2020, "Euphoria" was dreamed up during coastal car rides, windows down, bumpin’ beats, with added musings by local legend Brian Ruiz. When “Méditation Nocturne” kicks off we’re still in the car - this time on a nocturnal meander through the ill-lit Adelaide hills, evoking misty feelings of nostalgia.
On the flipside, DIY Discs’ staple PJ Principle (FKA Peej) out of Nottingham steers “Euphoria” straight into disco heaven with a tasty Linn Drum groove, piano and guitar - a cut that wouldn’t sound out of place on a Steely Dan record. Last but not least, New York's Jenifa Mayanja delivers a lush and dreamy rework of “Méditation Nocturne” that’s sure to captivate dancefloors worldwide.

Jonny Faith's journey in music has taken him from Edinburgh, through London and Sydney, to his adopted hometown of Melbourne. Along the way he has toured Japan with Bonobo, been remixed by Clap! Clap!, performed alongside Flying Lotus and Dam-Funk and dropped LPs on labels shared by Quantic and Debruit (Kokoko).

Jonny's particular knack for sneaking cosmic melodies into cutting edge beats drawing on hip hop, jungle, footwork and dub has won him support from Clash, Gilles Peterson, Radio Nova, KCRW, DJ Mag, Triple J, Don Letts, Lauren Laverne and even Martin Garrix.

While he is mostly known for instrumental music, Jonny's sound is actually perfectly suited to vocal collaborations, as those familiar with his production for Harleighblu and remixes for The Bamboos and Hot 8 Brass Band are well aware. 

The first single from his forthcoming 'Night Lights' EP, 'Fana' stands on its own in instrumental form, with chiming melodics and arpeggiated synths building over crisp uptempo drums and deep bass tones. But it is with the vocals of Melbourne-based Guinean artist Mohamed Camara that the track really takes off.
