"We don't get the benefits of a regular rub down as we used to, but when it happens, it remains a bit of a treat. The chaos of the early discogs forums introduced us over 20 years ago but also because we shared a love of proper deep music and the high life. We've done some Estimulo Shows, SUNK parties (with Chris) and many lost all nighters together before trajectories diverged. This one was a recent Saturday night, just winging it whilst quaffing notable Italian Reds. Its mildly amusing to me (Andy) that this recording leans into Dub Techno, a genre for which Truly has peculiar aversion to… and yet we are left feeling for dubby chords, swirling delays, some elegiac melodies and our passion for the proper tunage......one more rider?"

Memories in music and everlasting impressions, two ideas at heart of the debut studio LP ‘Scars’ by ilan Bluestone. A leading figure in the trance and electronic music scene for the last 5 years, the British producer has performed at the likes of Madison Square Gardens, Red Rocks and Wembley Arena, is a regular in the sets of Above & Beyond, Armin van Buuren and Kaskade, and has notched up 10 #1 singles in the Beatport Trance charts along the way.

The follow up to 2016’s ‘Bigger Than Love’ and recent favourite ‘Frozen Ground’, new single ’Scars’ reunites ilan with singer / songwriter Giuseppe De Luca. A dubstep-trance hybrid, ‘Scars’ takes his sound out of the traditional 4/4 world for the first time, yet retains ilan’s flair for heartfelt melodic productions.

“Giuseppe and I started with a blank canvas for this one. I laid down some chords in the studio and Giuseppe spent some time writing lyrics with me in California. The style change happened fairly organically, there’s a lot of power in the words he wrote and I wanted the drama of the music to reflect that”, explained ilan. “I’ve always tried to make music that leaves an impression on my fans and that was the inspiration for the record and ultimately the album”.

Co-produced by Pietro Amato and mixed by Mark Lawson (Arcade Fire’s collaborators) - the eight minute piece in two movements juxtaposes an intimate, slow moving opening that is overtaken by a series of gripping, ambitious orchestral swells in the second half. Pairing delicate, melodic piano with lush string and horn sections, the track displays Tambour (Simon P. Castonguay) at his best: patient, carefully constructed arrangements that are at once full of life and vivid imagery…

French pianist / composer Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch returns with the stunning 'Époques', her sophomore album for FatCat's pioneering 130701 imprint. Witnessing an increased assurance and dynamism in both Emilie's playing and composing, 'Époques' marks a big step forward for the London-based artist. A bold and adventurous album that alternates between passages of emotive, sinuous solo piano; stirring compositions for viola and cello and some beautifully sprawling electronics, it has been masterfully pieced together to further reveal a unique and intelligent sense of artistry, and a composer who really does deserve your full attention.

'Époques' is a deep, forceful, at times difficult, listen - a true shifting through the various registers of emotion, from dark to light. Whilst fans of artists like Max Richter, Dustin O'Halloran and Jóhann's Jóhannsson ought to surely find much to love in this album, and parallels may be found to a progressive new breed of female peers like Claire M Singer, Lucy Railton and labelmate Resina, it is a record that genuinely sees its maker finding her own space, fully formed and conclusively set aside from peers and influences. No mere background listen, 'Époques' is a proper journey of an album – a record to immerse yourself into; that stands up to and rewards repeat listening, revealing itself more and more over time.
