After his first release on Why People War Compilation in March 2022, Montessori is back on the Lithuania-based label Why People Dance with his brand new EP "Smelling a New Flavor." Leftfield-leaning acid, techno, and indie dance mixed as the futuristic and reborn sound of a progressive vibe. In sheer rapture, Riotvan hereby announces... Curses, the most classy and charming prince of darkness that contemporary dance music has to offer, is debuting on the label with a new release. 

We’ve seen him on remix duties for New Hook recently. Still, here we find him submitting two originals, crafted with his regular companion, Dame Bonnet, on the bass and showcasing a rather tender sentiment within the signore’s emotional spectrum. 'Premonitions' aligns bass-driven Postpunk-verve with blissful synths and an overall romantic tuning that Human League or Tears For Fears would’ve sold some close relatives to achieve. 

'Salvation', on the other hand, builds a somewhat meditative, almost IDM-like grounding, on top of which Curses practices a head-spinning Talkbox-exorcism.

Exclusive remix of Los Angeles and Bologna based Nuovo Testamento's Heartbeat by Curses himself! Taken from the band's 2023 album Love Lines, Heartbeat - in its original form a shimmering italo synth pop number, part Danceteria-era Madonna, part Yazoo - has been ruthlessly retooled here by Curses for strobe lit sweatboxes. Shifting the emphasis from its sparkling synths and pop melody towards the rhythm section, the track's synth bass now dominates the track just as its martial kick drums and gated snares push us deeper into EBM territory.

‘Next Wave Acid Punx DEUX’ is a return to the dark romantic of the past, present and future. An undying passion for all things post-punk/wave/body music and beyond. Release date: October 20th. 2023

Taking us on a sleazy, strobe lit tour of the darker corners of clubland Next Wave Acid Punx DEUX is the second compilation curated for Eskimo Recordings by Luca Venezia, aka Curses. Threading the needle between early industrial, EBM, post-punk experiments and some of the most exciting music being made today, the 49 track compilation also features some of Luca's own exclusive remixes such as his 'Revamp' of New Beat classic J.W.B. Hits The Beat's 'Body On Body'.

Originally released back in 1987, Curses' remix brings the track right up date, pushing the tempo and toughening up the drums whilst stripping it back down to focus on the portentous choral synth pads and teasing us with its ecstatic vocal samples before the effervescent Italo melody brings it all together. A perfect synthesis of past and present, much like the compilation it's taken from.

Barcelona’s Anbau (Aspecto Humano) debuts on Bordello with a Giro d’Italia themed EP. Dedicated to its heroic riders and specifically the late Marco Pantani. He broke through in 1994, winning one of the hardest Giro climbs with an incredible time record; the Passo del Mortirolo. He eventually became second in the final rankings of this legendary tour of Italy.

The release will be out on the 4th of May, kicking off the 108th edition of La Corsa Rosa. Every copy comes in a limited edition sleeve with a unique and rare original Merlin collector’s sticker of the 78th Giro from ’95.

Strange animals, dark sounds, strange vibrations have hypnotized us and brought us closer to this strange star-shaped station. A large omniscient eye communicates to us through telepathic waves: A journey does not begin when we leave nor does it end when we reach the destination. Shades of Ibiza 88-89 pervade here; the kind of pumping, chunky synth action, Teutonic vocal exhortations and vaguely menacing but ultimately benign vibe that sent thousands of potty European kids totally round the bend and changed the world of dance music forever.

No FTR is short No Future: Daniel Monaco wants to represent a trip into an obscure place maybe lost in space maybe doomed in a parallel universe, the drums are sometimes mixed with metallic trashcans alike sounds, melodies suggesting feelings of hope and despair, Sequenced synth bass are mixed with live performed basslines trying to create a muddy yet sharp rolling grooves.
Some intentional overdoe on the arrangement was made to recall the fullness in sound typical of few old school Italo tracks Daniel Monaco is fond of.
