The ancient Silk Road was mainly used to trade silk to the west and wool, gold and silver to the east . Not only merchants, scholars and armies used its network, but also ideas, religions and entire cultural groups diffused and migrated along the routes from east to west and vice versa. Nestorianism (from the late ancient Roman Empire) and Buddhism (from India) to China, for example. However, recent scholarship warns against overestimating the volume of trade (at least overland) and the transportation infrastructure of the various trade routes.

One 6,400 kilometer route began in Xi'an and followed the course of the Great Wall of China to the northwest, passing through the Taklamakan Desert, overcoming the Pamir Mountains, and passing through Afghanistan to the Levant; from there, trade goods were then shipped across the Mediterranean. Few merchants traveled the entire route; goods tended to be transported in a staggered fashion via intermediaries.

The trade and route network reached its greatest importance between 115 B.C. and the 13th century A.D. With the gradual loss of Roman territory in Asia and the rise of Arabia in the Levant, the Silk Road became increasingly unsafe and rarely traveled. In the 13th and 14th centuries, the route was revived under the Mongols; among others, at the time the Venetian Marco Polo used it to travel to Cathay (China). According to popular belief, the route was one of the main routes through which plague bacteria reached Europe from Asia in the mid-14th century, causing the Black Death there.

B. der Nestorianismus (aus dem spätantiken Römischen Reich) und der Buddhismus (von Indien) nach China.[1] Allerdings wird in der neueren Forschung davor gewarnt, das Handelsvolumen (zumindest auf dem Landweg) und die Verkehrsinfrastruktur der verschiedenen Handelsrouten zu überschätzen.

Eine 6.400 Kilometer lange Route begann in Xi’an und folgte dem Verlauf der Chinesischen Mauer in Richtung Nordwesten, passierte die Taklamakan-Wüste, überwand das Pamirgebirge und führte über Afghanistan in die Levante; von dort wurden die Handelsgüter dann über das Mittelmeer verschifft. Nur wenige Kaufleute reisten auf der gesamten Route, die Waren wurden eher gestaffelt über Zwischenhändler transportiert.

Die Reisen des Voyager-Programms werden denen der Niederländer im 17. Jahrhundert gegenübergestellt, mit deren langer Tradition der Entdecker und Denker, so zum Beispiel Constantijn Huygens und dessen Sohn Christiaan. Deren Entdeckungen werden mit den Entdeckungen der Voyager-Sonden verglichen (Jupiter und Saturn Monde).

Telescopium is a minor constellation in the southern celestial hemisphere, one of twelve named in the 18th century by French astronomer Nicolas-Louis de Lacaille and one of several depicting scientific instruments. Its name is a Latinized form of the Greek word for telescope. Telescopium was later much reduced in size by Francis Baily and Benjamin Gould.

This was one of my earliest compositions - from around 2001 - of what I would consider a 'full' song... i.e. not the usual recording of me noodling on a part to build on later and never finishing. The main chorus & verse theme are pretty straightforward and remind me a little of the 'Winter Games' theme by David Foster. But the bridge section in the middle and especially the arpeggio in the closing section are something quite different... arguably my favourite minute or so of anything I've recorded.

A long, long time ago, there was an organ in the Christmas-decorated living room in his parents' house, where Frank grew up. Originally bought by his father for his two older siblings, they showed no interest in playing the organ. Frank, however, did. White and black keys and giving off strange sounds. 

So at the age of 9 he began to let his fingers circle on this instrument, searching for the right keys like on a typewriter. And another 9 years would pass before he could buy his first own instrument. Already at the age of 13 he made notes about the then current synthesizers, bought one magazine after the other and visited music fairs in Frankfurt, Germany.

His first keyboard was the Yamaha DSR-2000, which he bought in a music store near his hometown Biebertal. In installments! Finally he could develop himself further - away from the limited tonality of the small organ. The built-in 8-track sequencer helped him to reach unimagined heights. 
Little by little his equipment expanded and his ambition to create music like that of Jean-Michel Jarres came closer. Influenced by this and countless other musicians of the time, his interest grew, but he taught himself everything. Not even having attended a music school or being able to read music at all, he wrote one song after another and recorded them on the only medium available to him at the time: audio cassettes.
Many of these recordings are unfortunately lost forever, because cassettes are and were not the best recording medium. He has to try to play many of his songs from memory. 

In 2007, he fulfilled a long-awaited wish: to buy a KORG. He had always wanted to own one, but with the latest synthesizers at the time of their release having a purchase price of over 6000 D-marks (the currency of the time in the 1980s and 1990s), that dream of owning one was far away. So in 2007 he bought a used KORG 01W/FD at ebay. And as before with the purchase of the Yamaha keyboard, a completely new world opened up to him.

In addition, there were expanders and sound modules from Kawai, Roland and Yamaha (K1m, SC-55, QY10). Six years later his enthusiasm for making music ebbed and rediscovered his hobby (which it always was and still is). In 2018 in April he decided to present his music to a wider audience and uploaded his first song on the platform soundcloud. Since that time, thanks also to the ever-evolving software, he continues to evolve, experiment and relive his times through music.
