Under the alias Daedelus, Alfred Darlington has been an instigator of electronic music culture for the past 25+ years. A fore-figure of Los Angeles' Beat Scene, they have released 20+ LPs, countless EPs, remixes, and additional productions on labels such as Ninja Tune, WARP, and Brainfeeder. As a performer they're synonymous with controllers, from the grid Monome to computer-free modular, and have played over 1,000+ shows on 6 continents at events ranging from Boilerroom to festival mainstages such as Coachella.

Dj at Dublab, founding faculty member for the Berklee College of Music's EDI (Electronic Digital Instrument) program, and S.E.T.I. artist in residence.

Daedelus has begun to live up to their Greek mythological namesake.

What We Provide
CelloBello provides free online resources related to playing the cello, including lessons, master classes, interviews, and interactive chats with artist-teachers from the solo, chamber music, orchestral, and teaching professions.

The site also provides articles, information on jobs and competitions, repertoire and book listings, and additional educational, career, and professional resources.

Who We Are
The Founder and Artistic Director of CelloBello is Paul Katz, former cellist with the Cleveland Quartet and current Professor of Cello at the New England Conservatory in Boston.

Additional content and instruction is provided by a long list of internationally renowned professional cellists and teachers who donate their time and expertise. Contributors include: Yo-Yo Ma, Alisa Weilerstein, Pieter Wispelwey, Laurence Lesser, Robert deMaine, Astrid Schween, Norman Fischer, Jeffrey Zeigler, Marcy Rosen, Lluís Claret, Yeesun Kim, Inbal Segev, Natasha Brofsky, Andrès Diaz, Colin Carr, Antonio Lysy, Amit Peled, and many others.

In 2010, cellist Paul Katz launched the CelloBello website in consultation with the Educational Media Foundation of the Public Broadcasting System (PBS) affiliate WGBH Boston, and Rafael deStella of destella.creative.

A major redesign was completed in 2017 by Katz, Webmaster Jussi Reijonen, and Blink;Tech, who currently host the site. A small but dedicated team of part-time and volunteer web staff maintains the site.

Relationship with the New England Conservatory
The development of the CelloBello website began in 2009 with fundraising support from the New England Conservatory and then-President Tony Woodcock. NEC’s support continues today with in-kind support of work-study students and Facebook Live streaming of cello-related events, but CelloBello is an entirely separate organization with no direct business affiliation or monetary subsidization from NEC.

Non-profit Status
CelloBello is a not-for-profit LLC. We are funded entirely by donations.
