Duboko [Journey Series]

Meet Sunju Hargun. Born in the middle of the hustle and bustle of Thailand's most densely-populated city, Bangkok has undoubtedly shaped Sunju's approach to music. Drawing inspiration from technology and the punk ethos, Sunju describes his sound as "Futuristic, Weird, Hypnotic and Alien."

We first met Sunju in February of 2016 during a visit to Bangkok's most established nightclub, GLOW, where he was manning the decks. As we danced about the darkly lit club, we found ourselves completely transfixed by Sunju's concoction of alternative, left field techno. Fast forward one year later, and today we are thrilled to invite Sunju to the mixing board, as he curates this episode of the Godzilla Disco Podcast, noting "2016 was full of mixed feelings and emotions, as there were points of happiness and points of struggle to find creativity and inspiration. Musically, I had been challenging myself to dig deeper and find records that would sound different from everyone. But, I realized in the end the only way to do that is to play from your heart and stay weird, so here is 60 minutes of me speaking from my heart and staying weird. “Life can be very challenging at times,” he explained. “It’s great to have a chill and uplifting sound to lay back, relax and/or meditate with, especially since nothing connects stronger with our true inner beings other than music… food for the soul!”

Sam Zenn needs little introduction. As a DJ, he is a true chameleon, adapting to any dance floor put before him. His rich, hypnotic sound and technical dexterity behind the decks makes him stand out amongst fellow peers. The only attributes that shine brighter than his skill set are his warm, genuine demeanour and humble stance. It’s no wonder that many of the country’s top venues have booked Sam, including Toronto’s Footwork and CODA, Vancouver’s Gorg-o-mish and Celebrities, and festivals like Bestival Toronto and Vujaday in Barbados.
