Casting its net far and wide, from Australia to Finland, via the UK and Tunisia, One Eye Witness’ maiden VA drop gathers a quartet of the international producers who’ve come to pique our interest in recent months.
Starting with Tunis-based up-and-comer HearThug, who steps up with “Alien All Too Alien” - a steadily pulsatory, 303-marinated dasher interlarded with flocks of pugnacious talk box stabs and rattling drums, making it a proper DJ-friendly weapon for any hour of the day. Helsinki’s Jeku follows up with the tribal acid churner ‘Aftermath’, laying down a sleek, sub-heavy earworm prepped on submerging systems from under the deepest layers of the spectrum with its fluttering melody, sturdy basswork and FX-laden synthesis.
Flip the coin over and here goes London-based groove manipulator Sohrab, entering the melee with ‘Ataraxia’ - a hypnotic slice of stealth mode, Gaussian-blurred dub techno that does exactly what’s written on the tin. The final number ’Surrender’ comes courtesy of rising Sydney-based producer Cousin, who treats us to a tripped-out ethereal riddim making the rounds betwixt the vaporous serenity of ambient and deep dub vibrations. The fourth Exposure Series release is upon us. If you have not heard, the Exposure series is our signature compilation series that features multiple artists and is pressed on vinyl for the most discerning DJs and collectors. 'Linear Radiance' gathers together 4 extremely hot artists in the scene for one special 12'. The EP begins with 'Raizel' by the hot newcomer Grush. This early set builder is smooth in the constraint it has rolling along in the sweet spot. A beautiful jaunt that is rich and fluid. Next, is the amazing Philipp Priebe. 'So Glad' is another Priebe heater. A very talented producer, you can always count on him for great dancefloor business. The melody sneaks up on you as it builds from deep within. A sublime and subdued corker! 'Sonic Shadows' starts out on the B-side from skillful Nicolas Barnes. His contribution is a combination of a big club techno sound and a melodic flow that is almost reminiscent of some prime late 1990's progressive house. Finally, is 'Grey Rythem' by Cirkel Square. Riding a catchy micro dub sound that is clever, fun, and surprisingly deeper than we could have ever hoped! All four tracks make for a healthy, well-balanced piece of wax! Linear Radiance is lovingly pressed and shared on crystal clear 180-gram vinyl. Act quick while copies are in stock. This compilation is sure to get picked up by DJs, collectors, and fans.

In the vast expanse of our cosmos, each human encounter forms a constellation—a fleeting alignment of stars illuminating the darkness of our solitude. We traverse these celestial bodies, orbiting others, drawn by the gravity of shared experiences and emotions. Yet, how often do we land upon these planets—these people—only to find barren landscapes devoid of the life we once imagined? The air is thin, and the soil yields no harvest. Every planet we visit remains dead. 

This is not a physical death, nor the finality of existential cessation, but a death of potential, of growth. It is the realization that those we once thought vibrant have remained untouched by the currents of time, unchanged by the flux of experience. In these moments, we confront the stillness of their being and the immobility of their thought. The life we anticipated finding in their presence is a mirage, a projection of our desire for meaning and connection. 

Roland Barthes spoke of the “death of the author,” suggesting that the interpretation of a text lies in the hands of the reader, not its creator. In the same vein, we might be complicit in these lifeless encounters. As the readers of others’ lives, we impose narratives upon them, expecting evolution, change, and enlightenment. When we find none, when the text of their existence remains unaltered, we are confronted with our disillusionment. It is we who have authored the expectation of their transformation, and it is we who must reckon with their inertia. 

In his reflections on seeing, John Berger reminds us that “the relation between what we see and what we know is never settled.” When we meet those from our past, what we see is coloured by the knowledge we have since acquired—the awareness of our becoming, our transformations. We have journeyed and changed and look to others to affirm our evolution. But what if they are blind to their potential? What if the world remains flat to them and the stars are fixed in the sky? 

To encounter these static souls is to confront the possibility that they are always dead. It is to acknowledge that not all who breathe are alive in the truest sense. Some are mere echoes, reverberating in the chambers of our memory, lacking substance in the present. They are the shadows on the cave wall, the ghosts of what might have been unanimated by the light of experience. 

Thus, every planet we visit remains dead, not because they have failed us, but because they have remained themselves. They are the fixed points around which we orbit, measuring the progress of our voyage through the contrast of their stasis. In this realization lies the paradox of human connection: to see others is to acknowledge their limitations, and in doing so, we come to see ourselves more fully. The death we observe in others reflects the death we fear in ourselves—the death of growth, change, and the capacity to become more than we are. 

To leave a planet behind, then, is not an act of abandonment but of survival. It is to recognize the necessity of moving forward and finding those rare celestial bodies where life does flourish, the soil is fertile, and the air is filled with possibility. Only in these living encounters can we continue to evolve, learn, and truly inhabit the brief span of our years.
