Late-2021 will see the release of Matt's debut studio album “Over The Horizon” - a union of songs, featuring early instrumentals and songs that have stood the test of the road now heard through these recordings, some revisited and others recreated. 

When speaking about the album, Matt explains; 

“This wasn’t the album I had planned to make! There was a full album’s worth of tracks that I was working on through the early lockdowns of 2020 - those songs, not all but many were far more darker and introspective in comparison. I guess it was a response to the sudden changes in the world, the shake up and all the things that came to be wrapped up in that.  

After things began opening up in VIC again, I had a few busy months back gigging in the first half of 2021 and life was feeling more like normal, then .. lockdown again .. but this time, I seemed to have had a different mindset than that of the last.

I was already revisiting some old tracks of mine, early instrumentals, which was where it all began for me plus older tracks with my rhythm section bandmates across the years - just happily chipping away at these mixes giving them a bit of a “freshen up” with no real plans. Before too long, I was overdubbing guitars, singing backing vocals and playing drums, percussion, bass even mandolin on some of the more stripped back tracks, then there it was, just under an hour of music in 12 tracks. 

The process has been really positive for me and a great reminder in getting back to my roots. I feel the anchor was in the songs and their history to me and I can’t think of a better collection of songs to call my debut. The foundation is now stronger than before but also I feel this is only just the beginning. As uncertain as these past couple years have been, writing and producing music has kept me inspired. I’m just as amped to play music and write songs today as I was when I was 18 launching my independent label releasing my first EP .”

Lately I’ve been working on new material – a more bluesy and stripped back sound. Enjoying the process while revisiting those early influences that got me harpin’ and playing guitar.
