Recorded live at The Tunnel, Milan on February 5th 2011.

We played two records each all night, Andrew first then me, until the last half an hour of part two where it's one each. I travelled by train with a kidney infection and without a passport for 13 hours each-way to make this one and I'm glad I did. It was a fantastic night, so thanks to Andrew, Diego, Lele and everyone who was there dancing like a mad thing.

After having blowing each other’s minds for years with their hard-earned audio finds, Andrew Weatherall and Sean Johnston decided to organize their own club night in 2010 in order to give their sound an outlet. On July 26th both gentlemen came to Trouw together for the first time and gave us an amazing set filled with primitive house, post-punk, dub, krautrock, disco and new beat. We've isolated a couple of hours of this all night long set by the wonderful music connaisseurs for this twelfth edition of the Trouw Live Podcast Series!

The quality of our guest mix series remains unbroken with the 3rd session coming courtesy of Andrew Weatherall who has had numerous appearances at our No Strings Attached club nights since the early years.  He always amazes us with the way he manages to capture the full attention of the club during his sets, pushing and challenging the crowd with his avant-garde performances. The long standing relationship continues when he returns next month with fellow slomo cosmic warrior Sean Johnston and this mix gives you a perfect taste of the ALFOS sound.

Rui de la Penha is a familiar feature at Jæger. He can often be found on the dance floor, taking in the music of the night, and on the occasion that Jæger Mix resident, Ivaylo calls on him, he is on hand with a few tracks to take his position in the sauna. As always he digs deep, venturing into the lower spectrums of House’s frequency ranges where an acid riff can live symbiotically alongside some Latin percussion with Rui bringing a tinge of menace to the tracks he selects. He uploads this mantra today in this latest episode of the Jæger Mix.

Crawling out from the miasmic pool of creation at a leisurely pace through a low dub-bass swell and legato pads, the latest Æmix from Mannex comes in its own through syncopated hats, 808 kicks and sonic signature created in the void of space. Between the warm lower frequencies and the luminescent glow of its higher echelons, which seem to be following their own indeterminate destination, a vacuous volume exists that leaves a handsome expanse. It’s where the tracks find a congruity with one another and its listeners as they progress from one moment to the next, picking up on a new energy  and travel further away from that initial moment of conception. 
By the time the mix gets to Ben Rau’s remix of Moonlit Vision, its taken on a new life with extensive additions to the percussion allowing the tracks to dictate a new pace and energy. The sonic atmosphere still however moves at a glacial rate giving parts enough time to ingrain themselves in the listener’s conscious through repetition and evocative airy lines. It goes post-primal, but the distinct 808 kick remains a constant anchor to the dance floor as Mannex teases the opening to a later set in the last few tracks of his edition to the Jæger Mix series.

August breaks out of the gate of his Jæger mix with a dubby, stripped back groove. A track that just keeps walking on the spot, instills a tangible Sunday mood before bongo drums, sultry pads, and a pulse join the fray. 4/4 territory awaits and through a slow progression August takes the energy from a sunny Sunday afternoon in the park to the first tentative moves towards the dance floor in reserved tempos and subtle, unobtrusive atmospheres that cloud around House and Techno. 

Æ. Give us an introduction.
A. Young papa DJ. I’ve been DJing in Oslo for about 9 years and recently started producing.
 
Æ. What is your earliest memory of a piece of music?
A. I think it have to be from my moms car driving around and listening to bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen and Dolly Parton on repeat.
 
Æ. What sound or genre do you feel represents what you try to do through your selections?
A. Pumping House music/Techno with a dark feeling, a warm pulse and high energy.
 
Æ. What do you consider your role as DJ should be?
A. Get a common vibe in the crowd and together, keep this vibe growing and going for as long as possible until we all are family or a marching army.
 
Æ. What was the theme of your mix?
A. Summerwaves
 
Æ. Which track in your Æmix best represents the theme of your mix and why?
A. 10001A – Wax. Its light and heavy at the same time. The chords sound like sunbeams in hot air and the sub-bass sound like big waves in the ocean
 
Æ. What do you hope your Æmix relays to the listener?
A. A feeling they want more of and that they wanna move.
 
Æ. What’s next for you after this mix?
A. To learn how to use my new Akai s2000 sampler.

Mandagsklubben has been a Jæger institution since opening, with Jeff Niels, Davidow Røsset and Andre Bravo leading us into every week through the entire spectrum of club music. Andre Bravo through his many aliases and extensively rich musical heritage caters to a night where everything from R&B to Techno finds a place and no hierarchies exist amongst them. His sets are diverse, but never eccentric and leads the crowd in an accessible charm lifted straight from Disco, but not beholden to it. 
 
In this edition of the Æmix the Mandagsklubben resident harnesses the sound of an early Monday evening with tracks that stretch from the deeper spectrum of House to the darker corners of Acid, and with absolutely no quarter given. An early evening set from start to finish, Andre Bravo keeps the tempos upbeat, but the melodies sweet in uplifting arrangements that break the monotony of the 4/4 kick drums they crowd around. It’s only a small morsel of a taste of Andre’s extensive abilities and the many directions a Mandagklubben event could unfold. 
 
Æ. Give us an introduction
AB. One very handsome DJ, producer, hobby chef & toy collector.
 
Æ. What is your earliest memory of a piece of music? 
AB. Not sure but one of the earliest is Earth Wind & Fire`s “September”.
 
Æ. What sound or genre do you feel represents what you try to do through your selections?
AB. I really went for a bit of everything, from Los Pastores to Fort Romeau to Guy Gerber to Jozif. All of them combined brings out a typical early Mondays Night feeling at Jaeger.
 
Æ. What do you consider your role as DJ should be? 
AB. My role is to being able to read the crowd and keep a dancefloor, while doing this at the same time educate and give back.
 
Æ. What was the theme of your mix? 
AB. Not really much of a theme here, except trying to get that early Mandagsklubben vibe going between 23-01.
 
Æ. Which track in your Æmix best represents the theme of your mix and why?
AB. All of them together represents the feel of the theme. But I really love the first one by Marlon Hoffstadt.
 
Æ. What do you hope your Æmix relays to the listener? 
AB. I hope it gets them inspired to come out to Jaeger more often! Especially Mondays.
 
Æ. What’s next for you after this mix?
AB. Well, off to Mandagsklubben tonight, then over to Elefant for my weekly Residency there with Schnabel, then over to Dattera til hagen on Friday to play an all Disco set etc ++++ Btw Come and check out my new bi weekly residency at Nattfabrikken, Its on Fridays and is called Code 4.

JM#069 - Andre Bravo

In the early nineties after Acid House was firmly instated as part of popular culture and shortly after his success with Primal Scream on the 1991 record Screamadelica, Andrew Weatherall could have easily taken a position amongst the Oakenfolds and Sashas of the world as a superstar DJ, but feigned the spotlight in favour of something more substantial.
“It’s a lot of work, once you go up that slippery showbiz pole”, he told The Independent in a 2016 interview with Fiona Sturges. “(I)t would keep me away from what I like which is making things. I mean, I had a little look in the early Nineties. I stood at the bottom of that pole and looked up and thought to myself ‘The view’s pretty good. But it’s very greasy and there are a lot of bottoms up there that I might have to brush my lips against. So, maybe I’ll give it a miss’.”

Weatherall grew up in the suburbs on the outer fringes of London, and he would spend his weekends going on “raiding parties” in the city. Trips like these would usually involve some “skirmishes” he told Bill Brewster in The Record Players, but ultimately they would involve buying records. In Beaufort Market in the Kings Road, the same road which Sex Pistols came to the fore and Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren owned and ran the Sex Shop, Weatherall bought post punk records from a place called the Cage. In the week Weatherall would be engaged in all manner of jobs just to make enough money for a weekend jaunt into the city. By the age of 13 he had become known as the “bloke with the weird records” and as he came of age he would start being asked to “come play some music”, stepping into the role of DJ as that role became more defined through the 1980’s.

“I want to listen to something in slightly open-mouthed wonder, doesn’t matter whether it’s a rockabilly track or techno. I got hooked in the idea that everything has to be new and original for a while. Originality is not what’s important, it’s authenticity.”
He knows his audience, and at Jæger his set favoured a 4/4 proclivity, but it combined guitars, synthesis and melodic vocal hooks in ways that you don’t often hear on the dance floor. His tracks come from vastly different sonic spheres but in the context of the mix they all find a disjointed relationship with each other bolstered by the unique artistic identity behind it.   
“Even if you’re playing wildly different music, I try to make some sort of connection or some sort of flow”, Weatherall told Bill Brewster when the latter asked what makes a good DJ.

This is the rare internet-only Real-Audio 'teaser' mix that preluded the launch of the Rotters Golf Club site in Sept. 1999.

Streaming was pretty poor back then, so sound quality is a little lacking (lossy, squelchy, artifacts etc) , but get past that and it's a great and rare downtempo/ambient electronic mix from Andrew Weatherall, considering he was going for it with the electro/machine/funk by around that point. 

I don't know ANY of the tunes on this, so any help IDing them would be cool. Enjoy!

The Jaeger Mix is Oslo’s monthly ritual for deep listening and dance floor exploration, a midweek club night that doubles as a living archive of the city’s underground.
Taking place on select Wednesdays, the series pairs Jaeger resident Ivaylo with a rotating cast of DJs, producers, and live acts, capturing the sound of the night and preserving it as part of Jaeger’s ongoing story.
Each session is recorded in the club, followed by an interview with the guest, and later published as a feature on jaegeroslo.no - In this way, the Jaeger Mix lives beyond the dance floor — a document of Oslo’s electronic music culture, framed both in sound and in words.
Guiding the series is Ivaylo, a Bulgarian-born, Oslo-based DJ, producer, and curator. A long-standing Jaeger resident, label manager for Full Pupp, and founder of Lab Cleaning Jams, he has spent decades shaping Nordic club culture with his deep, soulful, and uncompromising approach to house and techno. His role in the Jaeger Mix is less about the spotlight and more about curation — weaving his own sets together with those of guests to tell the evolving story of the dance floor.
The Jaeger Mix stands as both a celebration of the present and a chronicle for the future, mapping Oslo’s nightlife one night, one mix, and one conversation at a time.
