It's always a pleasure to be working with high flying Texas bluesman Tom Adams @tytlblues . Tom is so well known here on SoundCloud because of his ability to play and record blues classics and originals, his prolific work, his fine collaborations with serious musicians, and his spirit in following and sharing other's best music. Almost every day, his followers are treated to pure, authentic blues.  Tom knows the blues, he lives the blues, and he shares the blues.  Damn right he's got the Blues!

I've been fortunate to have played and recorded with Tom, and have organized our recordings together here.   And several other of my very favorite SC guitarists are featured on some of these recordings as well -- Justin Valente and Ian Tait.  Check out all their galleries.  Wonderful musicians.

Post Holiday Blues - With Tom Adams / guitar

We had a blast pulling this together.  Its a simple blues/gospel riff on organ in F, that sets up some wonderful opportunities for heavy jams over the top by Justin and Tom, two of the finest blues players I have ever recorded with.  Tom has the solos with a more treble sound, and Justin boosts his midrange and bass.  Check out their SoundCloud pages if you are not familiar.  They are bad ass, just like this tune. Bad Ass Blues - with Justin Valente and Tom Adams / guitars

What fun pulling this together with three serious musicians.  You probably know Joe Bongiovanni and Justin Valente's awesome blues oriented guitars, and they stretch out here on this funk / soul / fusion groove.  Burning it up they are.  And joining us on Alto Sax is recording artist Matt Criscuolo.  Look for him at mattcriscuolo.com.  These guys just play their ass off here.  Started with an internet fusion loop, I added many keyboard lines to funk it up to the max, and we added these pros.  Joe takes the opening solos for the first four minutes, Justin follows, and we finish with all the guys trading off.  So much energy.  Positive energy here.  Put this on and relax. Lifetime recording artist, soul vocalist, saxophone and harmonica player Johnny Pugh sits in with blues guitarist extraordinaire Justin Valente and me on an emotional Ray Charles type slow jam.  What a wonderful surprise to hear Johnny's beautiful harp lines, which fit perfectly with Justin's raw electric blues energy. Fresh Funk

So much fun to have musicians all over the world play together, and this jam includes three of my very favorite guitarists and musicians here on SoundCloud...Tom Adams, Ian Tait and Justin Valente.  These guys can all light up a stage, and graciously came together for this funky collaboration.  If you aren't following them all you should be - you'll be getting fresh tracks almost every day from each.  Tom and Justin are both from the US (Austin and NYC), and Ian hails from Edinburgh, Scotland.   For our Summer Funk Jam here, we started with a very funky internet backing track, allowing everyone to dig in and do their thing.  You'll recognize each of the guys' styles if you've been listening to their galleries, and together it makes for some serious Summer Funk. It's back to school time for so many and that has students singing the blues! Thought we'd commemorate this time of the year with an electric blues, and asked the superb Tom Adams https://soundcloud.com/tytlblues to join me.   Tom knows I love funk, and when this backing track with my electric guitar solo keyboard patch landed in his email, was probably a little funkier and more electric than his norm.  But damn, check out what he's done to challenge me.  Listening as always, he throws back some serious pitch bends, distortion, and mimics beautifully what I am doing on the synthesizer.  I have the first solo, Tom follows and we're off to the races together.  Thanks for the fun Tom....always a pleasure.

Back To School Blues - with Tom Adams / guitar

Tom and I came together here to record one of my very favorite Rock tunes, Feeling Alright.  Originally written by Dave Mason and performed by Traffic, the tune was picked up by the great Joe Cocker, performed at Woodstock, and the rest is history.  A great I-IV groove that just brings home emotion.  Tom had recorded this without piano and I immediately jumped in to ask if I could add the defining part (at least for me ).  No vocals here but I threw in the trombone melody to help bring back the proper vibe.  Hopefully the passion comes through with our recording. This was something special! This track is a collaboration between Daniel van den Berg aka Danarchx on guitars and Jamie Rhind on Organ, strings synth and bass Synth. Don't Fvck Your Neighbor

Here's a classic jazz standard A Foggy Day.  A Foggy Day was composed by George Gershwin, with lyrics by Ira Gershwin, and introduced by Fred Astaire in the 1937 film A Damsel in Distress. Never saw the movie but the beautiful tune has stuck with me for a long time.  It was originally titled "A Foggy Day (In London Town)" in reference to the pollution-induced pea soup fogs that were common in London during that period, and is often still referred to by the full title.  So many greats have recorded this, including Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Billy Holiday, George Benson and even David Bowie.

This recording was all done on keyboards.

Alphio is so deeply rooted in serious reggae, and brought his great understanding and love to his riddim guitar work.  Julien as always has contributed sweet playing and ideas with two keyboard tracks and also the two fine synth solos.  And Milwaukee's Ian Greaves's sweet lyrics and vocals tell the story.

Nothing like the thrills of the '70s Muscle Cars.   How 'bout a '72 Camero...

'72 Camero

1971 was an important time in music, where electricity was changing the landscape and Rock, Funk, Soul and Jazz were all merging into psychedelic grooves.  Marshal stacks were often taller than the players, the players were higher than the Marshal stacks, Strats and Les Pauls were the axes of choice, Hammond B3 Organs and Fender Rhodes keyboards could compete for volume with the guitars, and the hair was even longer than the jams.   Woodstock was a recent memory, Jimi Hendrix had just passed but had moved into the funk and soul inspired Band of Gypsies period, Sly & The Family Stone was heating it up with heavy funk and soul inspired grooves, and Miles Davis had just released the seminal Bitches Brew fusion double album that literally changed music.  This was where it was at, with each of these musicians and bands being influenced by each other.  Great stuff that produced legendary sessions and recordings and pushed music forward with power, energy, groove and volume.  

1971 commemorates this time and mindset, and recreates the feel with friends from around the world who continuously exhibit this spirit, energy and hair in their playing:

A couple of words on each of the players:  ALPHA ROOTS - Alphio was the perfect choice to add his soulful African djembe percussion voice.  One of the most prolific and inclusive musicians here on SoundCloud, always speaking with a positive voice.  Check out his often reggae and dub inspired recordings.  RICKARD FROM - my favorite B3 player here on SoundCloud.  We haven't recorded before but wanted his beautiful sound and also wanted these other heavy cats to be introduced to his Jimmy Smith type playing.  STEPHEN "PINNER" LIPINSKI - one of the hottest jazz fusion guitarists on SoundCloud, bringing more modern Scofieldesque jazz lines and harmonies to 1971.  SCOTT NELSON - another burning jazz and fusion guitarist, Scott sound combines elements of the contemporary guitar masters - Scofield, Metheny and Martino - to create his extraordinary playing.  MARCO OVERSTEEGEN - no one on SC has a closer overall sound to Hendrix, and we needed Marco's fabulous rhythm playing and soloing to anchor this 1971 mood.  JUSTIN VALENTE - Justin's my favorite blues rock guitarist, and just had to be a part of this summit, bringing us that heavy electric sound of Jimi, The Allman Bros, Freddie King and Stevie Ray Vaughn.

We are so excited to present this seminal soul blues classic Who Knows, first performed by Jimi Hendrix' '70 power soul trio, Band of Gypsies.   Stick with it through the end for a thrilling ride.   Leading our team is Detroit's rocker Tony "Bluestone" Pappas https://soundcloud.com/tonybluestone , who just nails the spirit of Buddy Miles, Hendrix' drummer and vocalist.  So great to have Tony's soulful and rhythmical approach on this extended recording.  Our two exceptional guitar players are both from The Netherlands - Marco Oversteegen and Rients Draaisma.  Marco https://soundcloud.com/marco-oversteegen just had to be a part of this recording, as for me he is the closest player I know in approach and sound to what Hendrix laid down over 40 years ago.  If it sounds like Jimi here, it is Marco's beautiful playing.  Rients http://www.rientsdraaisma.com https://soundcloud.com/rients-draaisma comes at it from quite a different angle indeed, using a very progressive fusion inspired approach to his  brilliant and unique soloing, and while also taking it back with superb pitch bending and pentatonics.  As a huge Hendrix fan, and one who has been deeply influenced by his playing, I've decided to also solo, using a heavy keyboard synth patch to try and complement these two cats.  A big thanks to Rients for his programming of the drums for us here. Jazz/Fusion keyboard player, composer and producer.  Marketing, advertising, publishing and sales career.  Originally from Chicago, where I developed a strong appreciation for the blues and classical, and moved to New York, where jazz and the fine arts are so deep.  Key musical influences include Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Jimi Hendrix, Joe Zawinul and Weather Report, Chick Corea and Return to Forever, John McLaughlin and the Mahivishnu Orchestra, Stanley Clarke, Scott Henderson and Tribal Tech, Jeff Beck and Jan Hammer, Mike Stern, John Scofield, Pat Metheny, Emily Remler, McCoy Tyner, Bill Evans, John Coltrane, Jimmy Smith, Joey DeFrancesco, Larry Young, Buddy Guy, Santana and Earth Wind & Fire.
