Post Holiday Blues - With Tom Adams / guitar

We had a blast pulling this together.  Its a simple blues/gospel riff on organ in F, that sets up some wonderful opportunities for heavy jams over the top by Justin and Tom, two of the finest blues players I have ever recorded with.  Tom has the solos with a more treble sound, and Justin boosts his midrange and bass.  Check out their SoundCloud pages if you are not familiar.  They are bad ass, just like this tune. Bad Ass Blues - with Justin Valente and Tom Adams / guitars

In addition to being a fine guitar player with a tremendous sense of humor, Ian Tait cooks.  Both on his Strat and in the kitchen.  He's a very fine professional chef from Scotland whose specialty is pastries.   Not blowing anything up your Kilt when I say fine.  So when we put this together, Cooking with Ian seemed to be the perfect title.  Loved working together with him....you'll really enjoy his funky and tight playing.   Thanks so much Ian...great fun

Bringing a soulful sound to SoundCloud with this one.  Lifetime recording artist, soul vocalist, saxophone and harmonica player Johnny Pugh sits in with blues guitarist extraordinaire Justin Valente and me on an emotional Ray Charles type slow jam.  What a wonderful surprise to hear Johnny's beautiful harp lines, which fit perfectly with Justin's raw electric blues energy. Gotta love the open invitation from Scotland's finest SC guitarist, fuzzmaster and executive chef Ian Tait https://soundcloud.com/ian-tait to join him on this heavy funk rocker.  Ian's signature funky sound and outstanding Wah playing were just what the doctor ordered for me, so I jumped in with some heavy synth guitar patch to try and match Ian's electricity on my keyboard.  On this track I take the first and third solos.  Damn this was fun Ian!!!  You are back with a vengeance.

Blues For Charlie is a dedication to the lives that were lost recently in Paris and now Copenhagen.  Our hope is that the emotion of the playing here touches people to remind them of the sadness of these horrible acts.

The tune includes a combination of grooves, with funk, funk rock, a little latin, some disco and a little touch of what I will call Pink Floyd.  All packaged together neatly. For those of you who haven't discovered Orlando "The Don" Lund, here's your opportunity.  Orlando is a serious pro, having built a career as a writer, multi instrumentalist and producer in London during the '90s Soul Funk era, leading and creating with some of the finest contemporary jazz and funk musicians in Europe. Orlando approached me about playing on a tune I had released here, What the Funk, quickly sending 5 tasty tracks to me - a solid grooving bass line, a congas line, two rhythm guitar tracks and a George Benson style guitar solo.  I've worked them all in here, adding them to all my keyboard parts, creating some sweet soul jazz for your listening pleasure. Urban Funk - Mirko Borach, Stephan "Pinner" Lipinski, Jamie Rhind and Julien Apelian

The funkiest guitar player on SoundCloud is BACK, with this grooving original, Can't Get Enough Of You.  Scotland's finest has teamed up with Germany's super funky slap bass marvel Mirko "Stringburner" Borach, creating what I can only say reminds me of one of the all time greatest tunes, Mountain's Mississippi Queen.  But Mountain never had a rhythm section playing with this much funk!  Ian's letting me do my thing on keyboards, and you can hear me soloing in the right channel, trying to hold my own over this nasty rocking blues.

Anyone wanna dance?  Joined here with Stringburner and Pinner on our funky original, Stay Low.  The right message for the time, with the worldwide social distancing and isolation priorities.  But that doesn't mean you can't enjoy a solid groove.  This one reminds me of John Scofield's classic Uberjam.   As always, Mirko's bass is driving the bus, and Pinner just can't help himself, pushing it inside and outside and creating that infectious syncopated groove. He's Back - Ian Tait / Jamie Rhind

Check out the serious bass groove Germany's wonderful Mirko Borach lays down on Gospel Groove.  Mirko sent this one over to me and asked if I'd like to join him and to see if I could persuade funk and blues guitarist Ian Tait to join us.  It had been several years since Ian was recording with us, as The Cosmic Trip Advisors, his blues rock band from Edinburgh, had been recording several albums.  With the impossible COVID situation making rehearsals and gigs nonexistent, he gladly said yes, putting a smile on both our faces.   After hearing this one, my brother said ... "I didn't know Jaco and Jeff Beck played together".  Love these guys and the music, and we hope you do too.   And a big thumbs up to Daniele Turani, who created the grooving drum track here for us.

Gospel Groove - Mirko Borach / Ian Tait / Daniele Turani / Jamie Rhind

Reach For The Sky is one of those collaborations that brings it all together with great musicians and great friends.  A big project that in total was more than 1GB, this soulful original gives everyone a chance to make statements and a chance for some fine ensemble work too.  Scotland's highly versatile Annie Smart so emotionally adds her voice and harmonies, Germany's Georg Boehme is on Bari Sax on this track, and Spain's Sam Mendez plays the flute.  Both weave in and out between the vocals, and above the wonderful bass of Italy's Daniele Petrocchi.  And playing guitars is Daniele Turani, also of Italy.  Everyone's in such fine form and it all gels so beautifully.  Follow each of these great players and creators.
