You'll recognize Ian's signature funky guitar playing, wicked sense of humor, outstanding wild graphics and great taste. In addition to being a fine guitar player with a tremendous sense of humor, Ian Tait cooks.  Both on his Strat and in the kitchen.  He's a very fine professional chef from Scotland whose specialty is pastries.   Not blowing anything up your Kilt when I say fine. Goin' Home - with Ian Tait / guitar

So much fun to have musicians all over the world play together, and this jam includes three of my very favorite guitarists and musicians here on SoundCloud...Tom Adams, Ian Tait and Justin Valente.  These guys can all light up a stage, and graciously came together for this funky collaboration.  If you aren't following them all you should be - you'll be getting fresh tracks almost every day from each.  Tom and Justin are both from the US (Austin and NYC), and Ian hails from Edinburgh, Scotland.   For our Summer Funk Jam here, we started with a very funky internet backing track, allowing everyone to dig in and do their thing.  You'll recognize each of the guys' styles if you've been listening to their galleries, and together it makes for some serious Summer Funk. One might think that at midnight, Scotland's top chef and SC guitarist Ian Tait is done cooking.  But no - a note to me says lets do a late night jam.  So we gather the ingredients - keyboards, guitar, bass, drums and vibes - and get to work.  A little later we have some dessert to share with you - Smooth Move - a simply I-IV jam that modulates a few times. Smooth Move - with Ian Tait / guitar

Ian Tait and I haven't released anything in a few weeks so we came up with a little cross the pond collaboration that turned into Scotch and Bourbon.  Named the tune for Ian's Scotch heritage, and since I'm from the US - but with roots back to Scotland on both my parents side - I went for our equivalent....Bourbon.  Two great drinks to share with you.  

A simple Hammond B3 organ vamp sets up the tune, and Ian added some additional interest with some moving bass lines, and his signature funked out wah wah playing.  We built upon that with some baritone sax lines and threw in the two solos - Ian is first and I follow using a favorite heavy electric guitar patch - an excellent foil. Busting out some heavy funk fusion for you with this one.  We've got three of my very favorite electric guitarists featured here  - all from up North in Europe -- Anders Moberg from Sweden https://soundcloud.com/anders-moberg-1 , Ian Tait from Scotland https://soundcloud.com/ian-tait , and Marco Oversteegen from The Netherlands https://soundcloud.com/marco-oversteegen .  I had invited them all to perform on the previously released Together world jam, and we've brought them back again for this extended jam.   Extra credit here goes to Marco, who helped create the backing track with his fine rhythm playing and comping.  You'll hear it behind all of the solos.  Anders opens this up, followed by Ian and then Marco to close.  I'm doing my thing on synth between the guitar soloing.

Gotta love the open invitation from Scotland's finest SC guitarist, fuzzmaster and executive chef Ian Tait https://soundcloud.com/ian-tait to join him on this heavy funk rocker.  Ian's signature funky sound and outstanding Wah playing were just what the doctor ordered for me, so I jumped in with some heavy synth guitar patch to try and match Ian's electricity on my keyboard.  On this track I take the first and third solos.  Damn this was fun Ian!!!  You are back with a vengeance.

Blues For Charlie is a dedication to the lives that were lost recently in Paris and now Copenhagen.  Our hope is that the emotion of the playing here touches people to remind them of the sadness of these horrible acts.

We Are Charlie

Blues For Charlie - with Tom Adams, Ian Tait and Kevin McCuistion guitars

Has been way too long since Ian and I got together so we whipped up a burning tune this weekend that got the blood flowing.  Ian busts out his signature funky wah wah like no one else can and rest is history.  Find a great groove and go with it.  Think you will dig this one.  Today is Herbie Hancock's 75th birthday, so I decided to go with some real funky synth playing here to recognize this genius and influence and also try and keep up with Ian.  Was tough, but pleased with the results.    Have to throw a nod to Billy Cobham's Spectrum with Jan Hammer and the late Tommy Bollin, as shades here of that great album too.

Moving Forward - with Ian Tait / guitar

Here's another collaboration just packed with funk and great players from around the world.  Represented on this tune are musicians from Germany, Spain, Scotland, France and the US (3).  Pretty sure you will enjoy this one.  It's an original funk fusion tune that lets everyone here stretch it out a bit.  Germany's Mirko Borach (Stringburner) holds down the deep groove on bass, with Barcelona's multi horn player Santi-Caballero Mendez creating the head.  Solos from Mike "Land of Orz" Orzek with a fuzzed out wah guitar, Santi-Caballero smoothing it down on sax, Scotland's finest Ian Tait bringing it back up again with his signature electric funk guitar playing, France's wonderful keyboardist Julien Apelian on a great synth patch, and then New Jersey's fine jazz guitarist Stephan "Pinner" Lipinski bringing it home with his serious Scofield funk guitar style.  Wow.  So much playing here.  Great job guys!

Funk The Blues   -  Stringburner, Land of Orz, Santi-Caballero, Ian Tait, Julien Apelian and Pinner

Came across Fluesy Bun, which Scottish funk rocker Ian Tait released last week.  Really loved it but felt it could use some help from Mirko "Stringburner" Borach on bass, and a bit of organ too.  So Mirko and I finished this one up.  I have no idea what Fluesy Bun means - must be a Scottish term -- but dig the music Ian.   It was quickly suggested to me by Peter Bennborn that Ian was having fun with the term Bluesy Fun, which on deep thought is certainly what Ian was thinking.  But since it was after the fact, I will leave up my ignorance and smile.

Fluesy Bun 2 - with Ian Tait and Mirko "Stringburner" Borach

Here's Stratosphere, a celebration of the marvelous Scottish guitarist Ian Tait's https://soundcloud.com/ian-tait getting his prized Stratocaster back from the repair shop.  When Ian released this heavy blues rocker earlier today I jumped on it, thinking we could bring up the intensity a little more with some heavier bass and synth work.  We've done a lot of great stuff together here on SC, so his immediate instincts were to let me have a run at it.   Thanks Ian.  The tune reminds me so much of one of the all-time classics - Mountain's Mississippi Queen

Dancing Fool - with Ian Tait / guitar

Back with another heavy funk groove - Wobble Home - with Edinburgh's executive chef Ian Tait doing the cooking.  Ian whips up an infectious wah wah layer over the deep synth and conga rhythms, then comes in with some heavy guitar soloing as the main course.   The conga groove reminded me of the classic Wobble, so we've named it Wobble Home - an after hours, he's been over-served again, funk fusion tune. Wobble Home - with Ian Tait / guitar

The funkiest guitar player on SoundCloud is BACK, with this grooving original, Can't Get Enough Of You.  Scotland's finest has teamed up with Germany's super funky slap bass marvel Mirko "Stringburner" Borach, creating what I can only say reminds me of one of the all time greatest tunes, Mountain's Mississippi Queen.  But Mountain never had a rhythm section playing with this much funk!  Ian's letting me do my thing on keyboards, and you can hear me soloing in the right channel, trying to hold my own over this nasty rocking blues.

When you want some seriously funky guitar playing look no further than Edinburgh's Ian Tait.  Ian's got that feel, that sound, that taste and that rhythm that one can't teach.  It just oozes from every recording he has done.  Check out his outstanding wah track here and his textbook lines, as he once again gets more funk out of his guitar than almost anyone can.  No need to ever tell Ian to Keep It Funky, especially on our original here.

Keep It Funky - with Ian Tait / guitar

Back with Edinburgh's master funk rock guitarist Ian Tait with a world groove called The Awakening.  This one combines a number of styles, from dance to rock to hip hop and includes a Middle Eastern vibe as well.  Kind of a blending of many cultures and grooves.  Ian's done so much of the 25 tracks we used to create this, with his great lead play, harmony, wah rhythm and more.
