Billy Preston has always been an important figure in music for me, and I asked the very fine vocalist Martin Jones to join me with his soulful singing on this 70s classic.  Billy was always one of the funkiest keyboard players out there, and was often called the 5th Beatle.   Because of Billy's superb piano, synth and organ skills, he was a top session player and toured with many musicians including Eric Clapton, Ray Charles, The Beatles, Little Richard and Sam Cooke.  Here's our tribute to the late great Billy Preston, who wrote hits such as Space Race, Will it Go Round in Circles, Outa Space, That's the Way God Planned it and co-wrote You are So Beautiful, which Joe Cocker then made famous. I love to play guitar and making music. Doesn't matter how good you are. Music is a beautiful expression of yourself, its a piece of art, emotions and it brings people together. Anyway my father drove my mother nuts in the seventies with jimi songs on a phonograph record while she was pregnant with me. Some of jimis sound and music stuck with me after i was born and i like it since then. Im inspired by a lot of guitarists/musicians...hard to name em all right here. Beside Jimi i like guitarplayers like Johny Lee Hooker, Eric Clapton, SRV, Walter Trout, Jeff Healey, Mark Knophler, Jimmy Page, Guthrie Govan, Alex Hutchings, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, BB King, Sam Cooke, Muddy Waters, Toni Abasi, Matt Scofield, Robben Ford, Joe Walsh, Philip Sayce, Kurt Cobain, Brian May, Jeffrey Lee Pierce, Joe Bonamassa, KWS, Lenny Kravitz, John Frusciante, David Gilmour etc...Most of all i like to play the blues, blues rock, funk, psychedelic rock, and rock. Hopefully you guys like it...

Jazz/Fusion keyboard player, composer and producer.  Marketing, advertising, publishing and sales career.  Originally from Chicago, where I developed a strong appreciation for the blues and classical, and moved to New York, where jazz and the fine arts are so deep.  Key musical influences include Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Jimi Hendrix, Joe Zawinul and Weather Report, Chick Corea and Return to Forever, John McLaughlin and the Mahivishnu Orchestra, Stanley Clarke, Scott Henderson and Tribal Tech, Jeff Beck and Jan Hammer, Mike Stern, John Scofield, Pat Metheny, Emily Remler, McCoy Tyner, Bill Evans, John Coltrane, Jimmy Smith, Joey DeFrancesco, Larry Young, Buddy Guy, Santana and Earth Wind & Fire. I was born in 1954 and learnt to play guitar during the 60s blues boom.  I used to be a total blues nut but I've mellowed to the point where I can appreciate other music of black origin.  My favourite guitar players are Johnny Winter, Rory Gallagher and Pete Haycock from the Climax Blues Band (the most under rated band of all time) but I have listened to an awful lot of Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, Peter Green and of course BB King.  Favourite singers would include Sam Cooke, Bill Withers and Ray Charles.  For the girls, let's have Gladys Knight and Chaka Khan.  Songwriters, Paul Simon and Carole King, not forgetting Willie Dixon and Chuck Berry.  I started writing songs as soon as I had the basic chords down and joined a band so that I could sneak some of my compositions into their repertoire.  There were many bands and I occasionally managed to persuade some of them to record, but that used to run expensive.  Nowadays, with modern home recording equipment, I'm working through my whole back catalogue.  I play as many of the instruments as I can myself and it's a lot of fun.  Discovering Soundcloud has been really great; listening to other people's music is inspirational and energising.  Thankyou to everyone who has taken the time to listen to my efforts and mega thanks to anybody who clicked on "like".  Words cannot express how wonderful it is for me to see those little hearts.
