Walking On Hot Coals - Jamie Rhind and Joseph Bongiovanni

We had a blast pulling this together.  Its a simple blues/gospel riff on organ in F, that sets up some wonderful opportunities for heavy jams over the top by Justin and Tom, two of the finest blues players I have ever recorded with.  Tom has the solos with a more treble sound, and Justin boosts his midrange and bass.  Check out their SoundCloud pages if you are not familiar.  They are bad ass, just like this tune. Bad Ass Blues - with Justin Valente and Tom Adams / guitars

What fun pulling this together with three serious musicians.  You probably know Joe Bongiovanni and Justin Valente's awesome blues oriented guitars, and they stretch out here on this funk / soul / fusion groove.  Burning it up they are.  And joining us on Alto Sax is recording artist Matt Criscuolo.  Look for him at mattcriscuolo.com.  These guys just play their ass off here.  Started with an internet fusion loop, I added many keyboard lines to funk it up to the max, and we added these pros.  Joe takes the opening solos for the first four minutes, Justin follows, and we finish with all the guys trading off.  So much energy.  Positive energy here.  Put this on and relax. Created this tune to combine elements of rock and fusion, and was looking to set up soloing similar to what John McLaughlin and Jeff Beck did with Jan Hammer. For me, every musical idea starts on the piano. I wanted to show you all the initial inspiration for How You Love Me, revealing the spark that made the entire song possible. I'm a musician BEFORE I'm a Producer/DJ, and this is the first of many more non-EDM tracks you'll hear from me! I really hope you enjoy it.

How special for me to have been a part of this collaboration with the young and extraordinary Dutch composer/guitarist/keyboard player Rients Draaisma.  While my hope was to create a forum for a call and response type solo between my synth and Rients' soaring creative guitar ala John McLaughlin and Jan Hammer in the Mahavishnu Orchestra, Rients immediately turned it up several levels to create what we have here.   The head came from a synth solo line of mine that was then adjusted by Rients to meet the intricate and changing meter.  Everything else Rients did - the composition, the most intricate drum tracks, and his very deep soloing.  All  Overnight.  Wow.

Bringing a soulful sound to SoundCloud with this one.  Lifetime recording artist, soul vocalist, saxophone and harmonica player Johnny Pugh sits in with blues guitarist extraordinaire Justin Valente and me on an emotional Ray Charles type slow jam.  What a wonderful surprise to hear Johnny's beautiful harp lines, which fit perfectly with Justin's raw electric blues energy. Fresh Funk

So much fun to have musicians all over the world play together, and this jam includes three of my very favorite guitarists and musicians here on SoundCloud...Tom Adams, Ian Tait and Justin Valente.  These guys can all light up a stage, and graciously came together for this funky collaboration.  If you aren't following them all you should be - you'll be getting fresh tracks almost every day from each.  Tom and Justin are both from the US (Austin and NYC), and Ian hails from Edinburgh, Scotland.   For our Summer Funk Jam here, we started with a very funky internet backing track, allowing everyone to dig in and do their thing.  You'll recognize each of the guys' styles if you've been listening to their galleries, and together it makes for some serious Summer Funk. Payday - Tribute to Tom Adams - with Justin Valente / guitar

This was something special! This track is a collaboration between Daniel van den Berg aka Danarchx on guitars and Jamie Rhind on Organ, strings synth and bass Synth. We aimed for a kind of Deep Durple meets Al Di Meola meets Yngwie kind of thing. It was cool and courageous of Jamie trying on a loud rock/metal piece but the result is... Well you judge!

From the late 60s on Miles always had one or two super serious fusion guitar players on stage with him - John McLaughlin, Pete Cosey, Mike Stern, Barry Finnerty, John Scofield, Robin Ford and Foley. Taking It Up - Dan van den Berg / Jamie Rhind

Created this tune to shed some reflection on the most difficult ongoing and escalating situations that exist in the Middle East.  The extraordinary Canadian Clarinetist Michel Martineau graciously accepted the challenge to join the music and has created a wonderful line that weaves in and out to complement the pulsating rhythms and modal melodies. Always exciting for me to have an opportunity to perform and record with Norway's brilliant fusion guitarist, composer and recording engineer Ronny Heimdal https://soundcloud.com/ronny-heimdal .  I started working on this tune late this summer when one of other favorite guitarists Justin Valente https://soundcloud.com/justin-valente sent me a funk track to collaborate on.  6 weeks went by and I was waiting for Justin to add his solos to it.  But I forgot the original track had come from Justin and then asked Ronny to do his thing with the opening and solos, and posted, without giving credit to Justin for setting the groove - or even the original idea.  SO SORRY JUSTIN!  Memory lapse!

With the new tune, Ronnie kicks it into high gear immediately on this funk fusion jam, and just doesn't let up.  Not only is he bringing his A game to make this come alive, but he's also brought his knowledge and ear to create the right sound and balance.  If you are fan of superb guitar, of jazz rock fusion, and of modal pieces, this one's for you   -  Go Ahead Ronny...named after a classic tune Miles Davis did on Big Fun, with John McLaughlin stretching it out over a modal groove....  Perhaps I should rename it So Sorry Justin:)

Go Ahead Ronny - with Ronny Heimdal

What a special treat to have the opportunity here to bring Vocalatti's sultry singing and Flutemaker David Williams' gorgeous flute sound together on the favorite of ours, George Gershwin's classic Summertime.  So many here on SoundCloud know Vocalatti's delicious and warm vocals, and she certainly sets the tone early with her smooth and soulful voice.  And speaking of voices, there isn't a finer flute player on SoundCloud than Flutemaker David Williams, who when not laying down the most elegant tone and phrasing imaginable, designs and makes some of the very finest flutes in the world.  In the world.  The two of them sound so wonderful together, and despite the cool fall weather across much of the northern hemisphere, we're bringing Summertime to you.

So we present to you Summertime, with Vocalatti singing, David Williams on flute, and I am covering the rest on keyboard.  The photo was taken this summer on a vacation we had in beautiful Menemsha, Martha's Vineyard, outside David's hometown of Boston.

Ian's signature funky sound and outstanding Wah playing were just what the doctor ordered for me, so I jumped in with some heavy synth guitar patch to try and match Ian's electricity on my keyboard. Wrote this tune with kind of a Santana groove, and think you will love what Santi-Caballero does with his gorgeous flute playing.  I have the trombone patch solos.  Route 251 is named after the classic II-V-I chord changes around which the tune is built. Billy Preston has always been an important figure in music for me, and I asked the very fine vocalist Martin Jones to join me with his soulful singing on this 70s classic.  Billy was always one of the funkiest keyboard players out there, and was often called the 5th Beatle.   Because of Billy's superb piano, synth and organ skills, he was a top session player and toured with many musicians including Eric Clapton, Ray Charles, The Beatles, Little Richard and Sam Cooke.  Here's our tribute to the late great Billy Preston, who wrote hits such as Space Race, Will it Go Round in Circles, Outa Space, That's the Way God Planned it and co-wrote You are So Beautiful, which Joe Cocker then made famous. Third World Town by Johnny Minstrel and Bastiaan Kooman - The Mastered Version

The brilliant Dan van den Berg https://soundcloud.com/danarchx and I are thrilled to share a tribute to two of our favorite bands, The Mahavishnu Orchestra and Return to Forever.  These seminal bands and their musicians were so important to the merging of rock and jazz, many having come out of Miles Davis' fusion band, and featured virtuoso soloists and creativity that had not been seen before with electric music.  Dan here plays both electric and acoustic guitars, and has added so very much of himself to this modal tune.  The tune features a repeating simple lick, with dueling aggressive synth and guitar solos that these bands pioneered and took to a very high level, with John McLaughlin and Al DiMiola on guitars and Jan Hammer and Chick Corea on keyboards. Mahafusionu - with Dan van den Berg / guitars

Excited to release Spring Blossom, an original jazz tune with three of the very finest true jazz players on SC.   I have known Alan for a decade, having worked and played with him here in New York.  He's a world class digital marketing professional, superb and highly educated musician, collector of extraordinary guitars, and created the melody here for Spring Blossom.  Santi-Caballero Mendez is a wonderful multi-instrumentalist from Barcelona, and plays saxophones and flute with both ease and taste.  Santi opens the tune up on alto saxophone.   This is my first collaboration with Manuel, who is from the island of Sardinia, Italy.  Manuel is a superb bass player, and performs here on his fretless 6 string - an instrument I am certain Alan would love to get his hands on:).  Despite being born with a handicap to his right hand, Manuel has overcome this hurdle to create and play remarkable jazz and fusion bass lines and music, in addition to drums.  I'm looking forward to doing some very electric fusion tunes with him too, as his understanding of bass and rhythm is simply stunning.  Straordinario.

I Don't Funk On The First Date

The horrific slaughter of 49 people in Orlando, Florida last week at a hot gay nightclub has shaken and angered so many.    Los Angeles' vocalist extraordinaire Keri Johnson https://soundcloud.com/kerijohnson joins me here in a tribute.  Keri created the theme, wrote the words and then recorded with her unique sound, creating these extremely moving 3 minutes.

Together We Stand - a tribute to the lives lost in Orlando / with Keri Johnson vocals/lyrics

We are so excited to present this seminal soul blues classic Who Knows, first performed by Jimi Hendrix' '70 power soul trio, Band of Gypsies.   Stick with it through the end for a thrilling ride.   Leading our team is Detroit's rocker Tony "Bluestone" Pappas https://soundcloud.com/tonybluestone , who just nails the spirit of Buddy Miles, Hendrix' drummer and vocalist.  So great to have Tony's soulful and rhythmical approach on this extended recording.  Our two exceptional guitar players are both from The Netherlands - Marco Oversteegen and Rients Draaisma.  Marco https://soundcloud.com/marco-oversteegen just had to be a part of this recording, as for me he is the closest player I know in approach and sound to what Hendrix laid down over 40 years ago.  If it sounds like Jimi here, it is Marco's beautiful playing.  Rients http://www.rientsdraaisma.com https://soundcloud.com/rients-draaisma comes at it from quite a different angle indeed, using a very progressive fusion inspired approach to his  brilliant and unique soloing, and while also taking it back with superb pitch bending and pentatonics.  As a huge Hendrix fan, and one who has been deeply influenced by his playing, I've decided to also solo, using a heavy keyboard synth patch to try and complement these two cats. How sweet it was for me when one of SoundCloud's finest vocalists, NayJ (Nay Nay to me) asked if she could add vocals and lyrics to one of my instrumental originals.  Of course I said yes, and we now have Spinning Circles, a gorgeous soul jazz tune with Nay Nay all over it.  What a special voice she brings, and follows up with several harmony layers to bring this further to life.  NayJ is so collaborative here, recording SoundCloud hits with so many fine musicians across all genres.  All. Here's one of the most gorgeous pop ballads ever written, You Are So Beautiful, with Florence's Paolo Pieraccini's beautiful interpretation on vocals.  I don't do much here with vocalists, but Paolo's voice to me is magic - his ability to phrase, to carry a melody and to so musically bring a story to life.  And when you hear how he does this with Billy Preston's tune, which was then made famous by Joe Cocker, you too will smile.  Paolo also added the pretty keyboard saxophone intro that we have. Originally from Chicago, where I developed a strong appreciation for the blues and classical, and moved to New York, where jazz and the fine arts are so deep.
