I pulled together this collection of tunes I've recorded that speak to where my heart is now.  Many incredible musicians from all over the world have joined me on so many of these tunes.   

Hope you enjoy the mood we create, the variety of world styles and sound, the sensitivity and creativity of the players, and use it for needed times of relaxing.  

Be extra cautious.  You can't see this stuff.  We MUST lay as low as possible.  That's the extreme reality and truth.  Thanks to all, some here with whom I have recorded, who are serving on the front lines.  Please feel free to share the music with anyone who might enjoy and appreciate it.

Here's a recent collection of tunes I have had the pleasure of recording with Germany's superb bassist Mirko Borach - aka, Stringburner https://soundcloud.com/stringburner 

Mirko is a deep funk player, always in the pocket, and has an extraordinary sense of rhythm that he demonstrates with his playing and soloing.   His solos on Sco-Mule and Sharing the Way especially show his command and artistry.   In addition to these tunes, Mirko has recorded with a number of other top electric guitarists here on SoundCloud, including Dan van den Berg. 'For Now' is a dedication to "Mother Earth and is in part, the sorrow that I feel for the desecration of Planet Earth. The piece is in the form of a soundscape, for the want of a better genre description. However that aside, I still have a positive attitude towards over coming the forces of darkness, that are intent upon destroying this beautiful place that we all call home. The horrific situation in Ukraine is on everyone's mind - Gathered to tell our story here are great friends and musicians who bring their hearts to the unfolding situation. Sennid Simon's super soulful lyrics and groove are so welcoming. Our two exceptional guitarists - Stephan Lipinski and Lou Taverna - alternate a total of 6 not to be missed burning solos across the funk, Georg Boehme's tight baritone sax adds glue with both funky inside and outside playing and Sergio Parraga's exciting congas and lead quinto drive it all forward and add to the tension. Lou's added some additional rhythm and harmony guitar parts for even more color.
Just doing our musical thing for Ukraine and freedom...

Funk The War - Sennid Simon / Stephan Lipinski / Lou Taverna / Sergio Parraga / Jamie Rhind

Here's a guitar jam/solo I wrote that takes inspiration from the guitar solo section of Poison's Bodytalk, as I am a huge Richie Kotzen fan, he's one of my favorite guitar players. I made this long jam and just free-styled over it. I added a lot of layers with the use of organs/electric pianos and some trumpets. 
All guitars, bass guitar and organs/pianos were recorded by me, as well as the programming for the drums, trumpets and sax.
My go to guitar for the entire song was my schecter custom

Dirty Talk

I'm joined here again by Jamie Rhind on the keyboards/synths and piano for this jazz fusion track. Jamie's two intense synth solos and his absolutely beautiful passages for the outro section speak for themselves. Grateful to have him join me on this one!

Created this tune to combine elements of rock and fusion, and was looking to set up soloing similar to what John McLaughlin and Jeff Beck did with Jan Hammer. Busting Out - with Ronny Heimdal / guitar

Here's an original Latin Jazz groove that includes the very fine Spanish flutist Santi-Caballero Mendez https://soundcloud.com/santi-caballero and German bassist Mirko Borach (Stringburner) https://soundcloud.com/stringburner.  Wrote this tune with kind of a Santana groove, and think you will love what Santi-Caballero does with his gorgeous flute playing.  I have the trombone patch solos.  Route 251 is named after the classic II-V-I chord changes around which the tune is built. At the beginning, Jamie and I wanted to create a jam session with 3 keyboardists. We started the track with Calaminus at the organ solo, Jamie at the trombone patch and me at the electric piano. Later, Mirko "StringBurner" joined us on the bass, bring us beautiful bass arrangements and an outstanding solo. Thanks to Mirko and thanks to Jamie Rhind & Calaminus  for their amazing keyboards solos.

Sharing The Way - feat. Jamie Rhind - Calaminus & StringBurner

The brilliant Dan van den Berg https://soundcloud.com/danarchx and I are thrilled to share a tribute to two of our favorite bands, The Mahavishnu Orchestra and Return to Forever.  These seminal bands and their musicians were so important to the merging of rock and jazz, many having come out of Miles Davis' fusion band, and featured virtuoso soloists and creativity that had not been seen before with electric music.  Dan here plays both electric and acoustic guitars, and has added so very much of himself to this modal tune.  The tune features a repeating simple lick, with dueling aggressive synth and guitar solos that these bands pioneered and took to a very high level, with John McLaughlin and Al DiMiola on guitars and Jan Hammer and Chick Corea on keyboards. Mahafusionu - with Dan van den Berg / guitars

This one is quite a crazy funky fusion track! A great bass player Mirko Borach aka Stringburner(https://soundcloud.com/stringburner )came up with the idea to cover this track by Los Lobotomys, a fusion group that was formed by Steve Lukather in 1989 with some of his friends and talented players, like David Garfield.
Mirko asked Jamie Rhind (https://soundcloud.com/jamie-rhind) and me to join on this one to complete the blend. Jamie brought his Miles' oriented synths, I brought my loud and funk rhythm guitars. We reworked the original, added different sounds and flavours to it, turning it into "Entanglement".  All of us have one solo spot around the main theme. Quite interesting is the turn of events with a more quiet interlude after the guitar solo, something we just had to keep in from the original.

Anyways! We hope to entertain you with this cover of a great fusion track and band. Do check them out if you don't know them already! Los Lobotomys...

Entanglement (cover) - feat. Mirko Borach | Jamie Rhind | Dan van den Berg

Here's another collaboration just packed with funk and great players from around the world.  Represented on this tune are musicians from Germany, Spain, Scotland, France and the US (3).  Pretty sure you will enjoy this one.  It's an original funk fusion tune that lets everyone here stretch it out a bit.  Germany's Mirko Borach (Stringburner) holds down the deep groove on bass, with Barcelona's multi horn player Santi-Caballero Mendez creating the head.  Solos from Mike "Land of Orz" Orzek with a fuzzed out wah guitar, Santi-Caballero smoothing it down on sax, Scotland's finest Ian Tait bringing it back up again with his signature electric funk guitar playing, France's wonderful keyboardist Julien Apelian on a great synth patch, and then New Jersey's fine jazz guitarist Stephan "Pinner" Lipinski bringing it home with his serious Scofield funk guitar style.  Wow.  So much playing here.  Great job guys!

Check out Stephan Lipinski (Pinner) on this soon to be released fusion tribute to Miles Davis.  Pinner is an outstanding fusion electric guitarist who grew up in the suburbs of New York, moved outside of Philadelphia now, and who has his instrument down and then some.  An exceptional player who brings a similar angular and harmonic approach to improvisation that John Scofield did with Miles back in the '80s. Cissy Strut is a funky, New Orleans type groove recorded initially by the Meters, and then performed and recorded by so many musicians.   Scott suggested the tune and we've decided to style it after a favorite version recorded by John Scofield.  We've lined up some great great players to bring Cissy Strut to SoundCloud - Scott Nelson and Stephan "Pinner" Lipinski on guitars, Mirko "Stringburner" Borach on bass and Alpha Roots with his signature djembe sound.  Scott's got the first solo and plays sweet rhythm guitar over the track, Pinner takes the second guitar solo, and I follow on Hammond Organ.  What fun this was for all of us.

Can't Stop The Beat

Al Schulman is the real deal, and again brings his gorgeous sensibilities to the romantic jazz ballad Alice In Wonderland.   Listen to his melody and rhythm lines here, as he floats over the famous changes, turning this into his own creation.  It's a treat to be recording again with Al, who sports a Masters in Jazz Performance from Howard University, has toured with the great Hammond Organist Charles Earland, performed with the likes of Anita Baker, Herbie Hancock and Wynton Marsalis, and studied with Pat Metheny.   When Al heard my release of this yesterday he asked if he could take a shot at it, and here's what we now have:))  Al broke out one of his custom guitars, this time a custom Telecaster that was actually made for Mike Stern - one of only two made.  Remarkable playing and sensibilities here.

A Positive Feeling

The funkiest guitar player on SoundCloud is BACK, with this grooving original, Can't Get Enough Of You.  Scotland's finest has teamed up with Germany's super funky slap bass marvel Mirko "Stringburner" Borach, creating what I can only say reminds me of one of the all time greatest tunes, Mountain's Mississippi Queen.  But Mountain never had a rhythm section playing with this much funk!  Ian's letting me do my thing on keyboards, and you can hear me soloing in the right channel, trying to hold my own over this nasty rocking blues.

When you visit Chicago be sure to go at least one night.  Live blues on two rotating stages from 8p - 4a every night of the year.   And if you can play they often let you sit in.  People all over bringing instruments for late night action.  Named our newest dog Koko Taylor, who's photo in in the poster on the wall - the Queen of Chicago Blues.

Jazz/Fusion keyboard player, composer and producer.  Marketing, advertising, publishing and sales career.  Originally from Chicago, where I developed a strong appreciation for the blues and classical, and moved to New York, where jazz and the fine arts are so deep.
