Meet The Oracle

Robert Schumann (1810-1856) and Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894) shake hands in this collection of piano adaptations combined with poetry. Five of Schumann's "Scenes from Childhood" join with selected readings from "A Child's Garden of Verses". In the sixth adaptation, "The Poet Speaks", piano alone, somewhat ironically, carries the meditation.
I have always loved both of these collections. As a child I wrote out many of Stevenson's poems and illustrated them with my crayons. Schumann's "Scenes from Childhood" first found their way into my repertoire in high school and I obviously still enjoy playing them. In no way, however, do I assume to be improving these lovely pieces by my adaptations; I have simply made them my own.
A huge thanks to 1234567890 (Peter) @user-264930040 for his help in choosing poems, and of course for his impeccable delivery. The project would simply not exist without his help. A very big thank you also goes out to David @david-dunhamuser589535203 for his cheerful help in mastering our tracks. (I owe both a great debt of gratitude.)

About thirty years ago, I lived on a boulevard with incessant and very noisy road traffic. This artery was used dozens of times by emergency vehicles going to the emergency room near my home. And to top it off, the rooms of the apartment I rented were adjoining the delivery dock of a supermarket. Hell!
My next door neighbors were an elderly couple who had lived there forever. When I asked them if the noise didn't bother them, they both replied "Ah but not at all! We're used to it and we couldn't live without it, that reassures us!"

Il y a plus de trente ans, j'ai habité sur un boulevard au trafic routier incessant et très bruyant. Cette artère était empruntée des dizaines de fois par les véhicules de secours qui se rendaient aux urgences près de chez moi. Et pour combler le tout, les chambres de l'appartement que je louais étaient mitoyennes avec le quai de livraison d'un supermarché. L'enfer!
Mes voisins de palier étaient un couple de personnes âgées qui vivait là depuis toujours. Quand je leur est demandé si le bruit ne les dérangeait pas, ils m'ont répondu tous les deux "Ah mais pas du tout! On a l'habitude et on ne pourrait plus s'en passer, ça nous rassure!"
Vous aurez donc compris que ce blues burlesque est pour eux qui n'auraient certainement pas supporté de vivre à la campagne.
