At Burning Man, the evening of the burning of the Man is often an emotional one. Energetically diverse, with people in a variety of states of mind: contemplation, celebration, and everything in between. As the set progressed, it felt like the initial challenge was to try to merge what felt like multiple interests and energy levels on the dance floor. I remember just feeling washed in warm energy as the various strands began to intertwine and the dance floor began to move together.

When Steve reached out to ask if I’d consider playing the Man Burn, and that they wanted it to be open ended, I was really excited for the opportunity to express myself, to share music that’s been meaningful to me across a variety of energetic space and time. It’s so rare to have these windows that allow us to just play, and when that connects with the dance floor it’s just pure magic. I’m so honored that we went for as long as we did - it all just flowed.

Reflecting on it afterwards, this experience ended up being one of my absolute highlights after 12 years on the playa. I went to the burn with the primary intention to spend my personal time sharing music, and this set ultimately felt like a beautiful marker of a year spent digging, learning, traveling, feeling, and finding my voice in a what is a relatively new medium for me. 

Gratitude. As a fellow builder of art cars, it’s important to express how much this length of time in relation to such a unique and scarce resource means. Scotty and the entire Pineapple Motel crew, thank you for the effort to make it happen! Particularly special to get to play on the Funktion One that I’ve had the pleasure of tuning in New York.

Steve, Lilly, Jason, thank you for the opportunity and for your trust. What a pleasure to camp together in our little village out on the 2 o’clock side this year.  

Last fall, in an ongoing dialogue about creative mediums, my dear friend John Dill encouraged me to more seriously consider DJing. The year of ear training via vinyl has been priceless, as have all of the tips along the way from many I’ve looked up to over the years. Its been a wild ride this year, and I’m deeply grateful for the support , and a few others I’d like to call out along the way. Benjamin, Holmar, Vivian, Jason, Isaiah, Mark, Lauren, thank you! I’m planning to continue to follow my heart with this one and we’ll see where it goes from here.

Indecisive / Distance

INDECISIVE

Happy new year. Happy new day. Happy new starshine, a billion billion beings blinking on, and on the dark side a billion billion blink off as if it was the end of something, but it’s always been this way.

The worlds always been on fire, fear about to outpace hope, love seemingly swallowed by death, our potential locked behind glass, unable to break fast onto the hallowed ground we can see, but on which we do not yet stand.

And yet, and yet, here we the fuck are, all together, despite such impossible odds, drawing a map with no idea of the territory to come, only this vague and persistent feeling that it might include some tidying up before we move on.

What? Well, the detritus of last night’s party. The round rings of spills sticking to the coffee table, speckles from Erin’s shiny pants. What’s left of the season. The cards. The tree to the curb, sweep its needles, pluck the one stuck to the back of your pant leg. Our lives, the relationships that make them. The mud from our past sticking to our cleanest feeling. The planet, its hurt rivers and oceans. And as we do, there is not sadness, but great joy, for each beginning is welded to its end.

It's always been this way. We've always been stuck to the music that life is blaring through us, bursting us like catapulting stars into the future, more truly beautiful than our deepest dream.

Let's lean into the beautiful. Now's always been the time.

With his new Album „Fluesseviertel“, the go-getting beatmaker Ranko builds a bridge between Hip Hop and House, Laid Back Vibes and floating Grooves. The EP is an hommage to his habitat and the people sharing it with him. In 10 Tracks he is arranging synth lines around knocking drums, jazzy samples around pumping basslines to create a warm and organic sound that is just the right thing to listen to this summer. 2020 - I'll stay here til its over

well, &%@ that last year. actually. the only good that came of it was...umm...I mean... we're...we're...still HERE right? I guess that's something. now that I think about it, that's the biggest thing. 

the math we all went through in 2020, simultaneously, are still going through, is pivotal, in the literal sense of the word. a long enough lever, the right fulcrum, and you can move anything, even the direction of a planet full of people. the movement started when it mattered most, at the fulcrum inside our chest. it hurts, sure, but that's how hearts feels when stirred, just before they start the song to guide them to their forever home. 

if i could guess, we are on the verge of the greatest era humankind has witnessed. one where we recognize, more and more every day, ourselves as lucky guests on this green planet, our health as intercalated to it and all living things, no matter how far away, that the travel that matters most is not on planes but how far out spirit can range to include everything in its endless love, and in these discoveries, in the nick of time, the difference between appetite and hunger. 

you'll see. it'll be the prettiest time we ever done seen. you can feel the shivers of joy from here if you try, hear the voices if you strain. listen. love.
