This mix is a soundtrack of sorts, inspired by a recent trip to Tulum, where all the artists that I love are wafting through the air at beachside  bars and restaurants in the jungle.  I hope it transports you to your own little jungle paradise in the Caribbean, sun on your skin, wind in your hair, and mezcal cocktail in your hand.  Enjoy, darlings!

Like a Mirror

Perfectly in tune with the summer season upon us, Islandman presents a refreshing sound from the shores of the Black Sea with this splendid sunny mix. Originally from Turkey, this brilliant producer started out at a young age and made his way in music by playing a traditional long-necked lute known as a saz. It’s thanks to this early relationship with music that Islandman developed the technique and feeling needed to handle farfetched rhythms, sounds and chants inspired by the flowering cultures of the Mediterranean Basin and beyond to blend them with mastery in his tracks and mixes. This eclecticism and understanding of music has helped him put together a wide range of melodies and musical styles which extend from enchanting edits of traditional Bulgarian sounds to smooth balearic disco. His mix is exciting and mesmerising, catching the mind in a gentle twine of melodies and rhythms. His perfect balance of percussions and electronic beats shakes and ripples throughout the track, and lifts you with ecstatic vibes. The mix goes on in a beautifully arranged journey set by the pace of your own inner dance, as if the concept of time ceases to exist and it’s just you and the music. "It was a beautiful summer day, the young couple enjoying their lazy trip along the coastline in their convertible. This was surely the most beautiful day of their vacation, as they rolled through the lush green landscape, savoring the scent of all these flowers. They stopped occasionally to enjoy each other’s company, sucking up the breathtaking landscapes or sipping from sizzling champagne, looking forward to yet another lazy day and sparkling night. They both had the feeling that this was for real, that they finally found their soul mate.
They drove into the hills, following a winding road over a mountain pass. The landscape was still beautiful on the other side of the mountains, but the greenery was gone and it was just a desert. As they drove through this desolate landscape, the mood changed. A sense of loneliness descended upon them. They started to doubt… what would happen if their car broke down? Would they be able to make it to the other side, where the mountains looked even more beautiful, but still so far away? Then a red warning light started to flash on the dashboard and all of a sudden the engine stalled. The car came tantalizingly slowly to a halt and the young couple looked anxiously at each other… Would this be the end? They had no idea what kind of test was waiting for them…"

" Ahoy! I'm living at the baltic sea coast in germany and since my childhood i'm playing the saxophone in several live combos. But a decade ago I also fell in love with electronic music. I like it smooth, I like it slow, I like it driving and drifting. I love to spread my vibe daytime on music festivals, sharing storytelling dj sets and of course still love jammin the saxophone with soulfoul musicians. Once in a while I combine and make live saxophone Dj sets.

Barbarella is a DJ and producer from Dresden / Germany. As music has always been an important part of her life, she was testing and collecting really different styles, before she finally found her home in deep,  melodic and bassy sounds from all over the globe, somewhere between tradition and modernity. The major influence on her musical creation emerges from the Spanish-speaking parts of the world, with a special dedication and love for Cumbia, as you can hear in her sets and productions. Barbarella is also a member of the duo "Pauken & Trompeten", organizing parties in her hometown and hosting a podcast series.

Archaeological evidence from prehistoric times suggests that the Earth was once viewed as a living, female being. Ancient texts and mythologies support the idea of a female deity associated with the earth and all life. The Phyrigian Earth Mother Kybele was one such figure among many and represented the earth, mountains, caverns, and all nature, the birth of humanity, the universe and everything in it. 

Inspired by this timeless and universal vision, this project is dedicated to featuring and celebrating the bounty and beauty of the creative works of women in music through special podcasts, original releases, and mixtapes curated by women producers, DJs, and musicians of a wide range of genres from around the world. 

In addition to highlighting the works of women in music, Kybele develops opportunities for broader inclusion of and greater collaboration among emerging and established artists  of all backgrounds through the "Friends of Kybele" series.
