"As 'Discography Lessons' is all about promoting positive mental health, I have chosen music that makes my mind, body and soul feel good. - I've gone for music that spans time and genre but all has one thing in common; each track creates a sense of happiness and well-being within me in it's own unique way whether they give me goosebumps, make me want to dance or just seem to caress my inner mind. I start with a mix of downtempo, funk and yacht soul at 100bpm moving through into reworked classics, deep house, nu-disco and italo and finally finishing with some dancefloor beauties at 128bpm. Hey this is John from Le Visiteur Online, welcome to the first of our new audio interviews where I will be speaking to some of disco and house music’s most inspiring artists and biggest characters.

For our opening episode I am talking one of the true legends of the scene Nicky Siano. His club 'The Gallery' in Manhattan was one of the three clubs which helped spark the disco scene and bring it to worldwide attention alongside the Loft and the Paradise Garage. Nicky was also a resident at the equally legendary Studio 54.

Inspiring those around him Nicky was a mentor to both Larry Levan and Frankie Knuckles so his imprint on the scene is unquestionable.

We had a long chat about his career including how he started his DJ'ing 16, the impact of the Gallery, how he developed his DJ Style, David Mancuso, Larry Levan, Frankie Knuckles, his own DJ heroes, his upcoming film ‘Love is the message’ and how his career and life has progressed over the years.

For my second dedicated Scottish House and Disco Interview I am speaking to @michael-gray who found fame in the 90’s as one half of Full Intention, a duo who hit the top of the charts all over the globe with their track America (I Love America) and their remix of Duke’s So In Love With You as well as a long list of A-list artist remixes. Michael also had major chart success again in the 00’s with his album Analog Is On which featured the singles The Weekend and Borderline. It’s very safe to say that he has consistently been one of the UK’s most successful producers.

I spoke to Michael about the incredible successes he has had, his studio, his production flow and he gave us some tips on how to remix classic tracks. We also discussed who he is looking forward to seeing on the Scottish House and Disco Festival on the 16th April, his label Sultra, his radio show and many other aspects of his career. It’s a fascinating interview.

Today I’m speaking to Kathy Sledge who found international fame in the 70’s and 80’s with Sister Sledge.

Kathy has had a truly incredible career which spans six decades now from childhood stardom to solo success she has travelled the world whilst creating some of dance music’s best recognised tracks. With super hits including We Are Family, Lost in Music, He’s The Greatest Dancer and Thinking Of You she had brought joy to millions all over the globe. With a brand new audience continuing to discover those tracks Kathy continues to keep busy branching out into TV production and creating music shows.

With a brand new track Kathy Sledge & Operation Funk Could It Be You? Arriving this week on Point Blank Records Kathy continues to inspire. I caught up with her to discuss the release and her incredible career talking about Sister Sledge, working with Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards, recording with Horsemeat Disco, Roger Sanchez and some of the new projects that she is working on.
