The contemporary cross-pollination of electronic genres and styles has a way of bringing out the very best of daring, boundary-pushing musicians and creatives. Hailing from Essenbach, Germany, the contemporary producer and songwriter duo Dysfunctional Family has a bevy of obvious talents all suffusing together; from synth work to drum programming, harmonic interplay, and the massaging of the vibe, their work has a way of setting the bar a few notches higher, and is consequently gestating a particularly driven sound. As a result, The Rust is extraordinarily excited to present their latest minted works, the 10-track LP A Day At The Beach.

Walking through the front door of the album puts the listener on prime, beachfront real-estate; A Day At The Beach is quintessentially a collection of downbeat, IDM-infused tracks that flip between pulsating low end and extremely lush compositional dialogue. The overarching musical narratives are brought to life through potent Reese synthesis and hyper-dextrous percussion anchored to the interplay of chords, leads, lone piano lines, and a panoply of glitch motifs and manipulated audio artifacts. The beauty of the album is both its expansive palette and it's incredibly tight songwriting fundamentals, showcasing a creative mind that's as compositionally focused as it is exploratory, and the marriage of risk and reward plays out across every single track on the LP. Regardless of where your tastes lay on spectrum, A Day At The Beach has the right blend of ingredients and right attitude to appeal to any and all ears and minds at large.

The vibe and soul of the Maddy O’Neal project combines soundscapes from all across the spectrum of genres…Rich in texture and atmosphere, her roots in funk and soul shine through in a bed of low end frequencies making for a unique environment for future bass and synth design to tie it all together. Hailing from Denver, Colorado you can hear the direct electro soul inspiration sprinkled in her productions but she has managed to carve out her own unique lane within the bass community. 

As a self taught producer and DJ, with a wildly creative upbringing, Maddy’s expression was formed by way of soulful melodic overtones, driven basslines, and glitched out hip hop grooves. Maddy’s live performances consist of original compositions, drum pads and an interwoven storyline ranging from down low grimey bangers to shimmery mid tempo vocal bass tracks and head nod disco. Her momentum is unstoppable as she has been touring the country for the last 5 years playing 90+ shows a year spreading her infectious energy from stage to stage. 
 
With hits like “Zest Please”; a collaboration with the iconic Clozee that amassed over 2 million spotify plays in just one year, 4 EPs, and her second full length album coming this fall, Maddy’s repertoire is ever expanding leaving fan bases across the world wanting more. 
 
Maddy O’Neal has played Electric Forest, Camp Bisco, Summer Camp, North Coast, Summer Meltdown, Red Rocks (x3) and many many more. Her touring resume is long and accomplished by supporting such artists as Clozee, Pretty Lights, Big Gigantic, The Floozies, Opiuo, Wreckno, Cherub, SunSquabi, Manic Focus, and more!

What a beautiful honor to share this experience in a place that is so special to me, The Black Box. A renowned underground electronic music venue that has a specially tailored sound system, which is one of two ever created. Such an honor to flex this beautiful system with so many of my dear friend's tracks, and artists who feel like friends because of the amount of hours I've spent with their creations. 
But I have to admit, my favorite part of my set was hearing MY voice through the system! Something that at first terrified me, as soon as I heard myself real-time living out my dreams, all anxiety melted away. 

Nothing could ever beat that feeling; of being so scared and feeling completely unable to do something that you end up realizing is utterly intrinsic.
