Hold On Mix

Finally got around to recording a proper follow up to my fall 2018 mix. This one is in the same vein: lots of vocal jams, melodic beats, rolling percussion, deep low end and lush cozy vibes to keep us warm as we head into the depths of fall and winter. Been a tough couple years for the world; hope this music will make someone out there feel good for at least 90 minutes.

Guest Mix 021: Michael Red

Stoked to present my opening set for Chrysalis 2022 – an intentional gathering to cultivate community, connection and consciousness in the forest of Salmo, BC.

Such a special honour to play this cherished and delicate time slot after the dons @kahn and @sicariasound. This was the first time I hadn't made a concrete plan for a proper gig, just felt into the energy of that morning and this is what it summoned.

This year's summer instalment comes in at almost 2 and a half hours of thoughtfully curated dub-influenced multigenre electronic music. Traversing a wide range of tempos and genres from 86 up to 160 BPM, these tracks are all held together by a common thread of dubbed out sound design. Spacious and bass heavy energy, lush echoes, reverb and soulful spirits all throughout. Hope you enjoy as always.

Mirrors Vol. 82 | keerd

My set from Shambhala 2022 during a perfect hot lazy Sunday afternoon with many happy ravers dipping in the river and enjoying the absolute majesty of the alchemy and bliss that emerges over so many years of gathering at Salmo River Ranch. There were many sets on many different occasions at the Living Room which inspired Baby Mandai and it's always a dream come true to return and play on that very stage. Endless gratitude to Mike & Sarah for holding it down for the family for decades and having the kind thought to invite me to play. This ranch is on land that is the traditional territory of the Ktuanxa, Syilx and Snixit people and I am grateful for the opportunities to have celebrated, healed and learned on it.

For ASM 024 Sweet Anomaly delivers a SPICY mix that was inspired by the continued explorations of global club sounds. He draws heavily from Afro/Portuguese, South/West African and South American realms. He shares that he sought to create a mix  that still reflected in some ways these winter days in the northwest while reminding us of the warmth of spring on its way!

The global rhythms, the energy it puts a spring in our  step, we are ready to leave the dark days behind and Sweet Anomaly is getting us pumped and motivated for what the spring and summer has in store for the music community. 

Sweet Anomaly is a BC based dj and producer. Born and raised in Montreal, a culturally diverse and vibrant city, he has been exposed to a wide variety of music from a very young age. This wealth of creative expression informs his sound to this day. Drawing from a range of genres and moving effortlessly between them, a Sweet Anomaly set can take you from one end of the world to the other, fall into a moment of the past and fly head first into the future. Over the last 25 years he's had the privilege of playing alongside many great artists at countless fantastic festivals up and down the west coast and beyond.

Sweet Anomaly - Audio Social 24

For the second consecutive year I had the great privilege and joy of collaborating with my dear friend Lo on a movement workshop for Bass Coast, with our workshop taking place on Saturday afternoon at The Cabin stage. This set was performed live, in sync with Lo's facilitation with the aim of working through a variety of tempos, genres and energy levels. I am so grateful for all who joined us, and for Lo's invitation to build this together. I am so happy with the resulting mix and I truly hope that it may end up contributing to your movement/embodiment practice. 

Workshop description: 
Get your energy moving with a delicious, full-body dynamic movement practice! Enjoy bassy flowing sequences with inspiration from Vinyasa Yoga, then turn it up with some sweaty dance-fitness. Then we ground it back down, touch into a bit of core strengthening, and top it off with an easeful and relaxing stretch. With a live DJ set flowing through a range of ambient to bassy and danceable beats, this session invites you to connect to community and yourself as you get a full body tune-up and tune-in. Bring a yoga mat if you can!

Facilitators Biographies:

Lo (they/she) is a lover of movements and thrives in the juicy space where art meets activism. With 14 years of teaching experience, they are trained in a range of embodiment modalities including yoga, pilates, dance, and fitness. They are also a social justice educator/facilitator, life coach, and clinical counsellor in training. Based in the unceded territories of the Squamish, Musqueam, and Tsleil-Waututh First Nations, Lo's teaching style strikes a unique balance of grounded depth and light-hearted play. Intergalactic Love Songs From Future Time In Space Vol. 5

Since their humble beginnings at a community radio station in 2003, little.fiery.one has been exploring the craft of mixing music with an ear for unique, beautiful, ambitious and experimental sounds. Punctuated with a variety of genres and styles little.fiery.one's sets aim to help create warm, open and explorative dancefloors that invite dancers deep into their dance. 

A non-binary 3rd generation settler, they currently reside and dance upon Treaty 6 territory, within the traditional territories for diverse Indigenous peoples including the Métis, Nehiyaw (Cree), Denesuline (Dene), Nakota Siou (Stoney), Anishinaabe (Saulteaux) and Niitsitapi (Blackfoot) and many others. 

As someone deeply invested in dance in its many forms, they have helped shape dancefloors at a variety of festivals gatherings, ecstatic dance events, and house parties.
