The Web We Weave

A couple of months ago a friend of mine (Evan Kuiper) asked me to record some some facepiano (harmonica) on a Renegade Country album he was working on.  The project is called The Barrel Maker and he's releasing an EP called "Maybe One Day" in the next few months. I'm blown away!!! This is the title track.

Beacon Hill

When I worked at Power 97 in Winnipeg I played the occasional show with a band called Sonic Bloom. They had a bit of success on their own and got signed. They had to change their name after getting a record deal from Sonic Bloom to Tin Foil Phoenix. That deal didn't do much for them...it might surprise you but a lot of bands get screwed by record companies. I recorded this song with the band during an evening of heavy drinking. I actually had NO idea they even used me on the record. I found out listening to The Wolf in Regina when I was on my way to Edmonton. TBH I had NO idea the band had even released the song as a single until I heard on that drive. The sad thing about this act is if they has been pushed properly by their label I think they could have had some success.

I'm not even sure how I met Jake...I think his manager may have asked to me to come down to the studio when he was recording. Jake is a very cool singer song writer. I still see his name from time to time so I know he's still playing...which is a good thing because he's a wildly talented young man.

I recorded this with these guys when they were in the studio working on their major label debut. I have NO idea what happened to this band, but I loved these guys!
